As a new force of teachers,novice English teachers are the pillar of the future development of the school.However,as novice English teachers,due to the lack of experience and mature strategies in dealing with classroom management problems,they generally have difficulty facing complex classroom management problems,which will not only affect their classroom teaching effect but also be detrimental to their career development.Therefore,it is necessary to study the classroom management of novice English teachers.The purpose of this study is to explore the current situation and existing problems of classroom management of novice English teachers in junior high schools,and then analyze the causes of the problems,to provide some affevtice strategies for solving classroom management problems and improving classroom management skills.This study takes 104 novice English teachers from 21 junior high schools in Qingdao as the research subjects.The research was done by using the methods of the questionnaire,classroom observation,and interviews from four aspects:classroom routine management,classroom environment management,classroom problem behavior management,and teachers’ self-management,to have a thorough understanding of the current situation of classroom management of novice English teachers in junior high schools.The research questions are as follows:(1)What is the current situation of the classroom routine management of novice English teachers in junior high schools?(2)What is the current situation of the classroom environment management of novice English teachers in junior high schools?(3)What is the current situation of the classroom behavior management of novice English teachers in junior high schools?(4)What is the current situation of the self-management of novice English teachers in junior high schools?The author got the following findings:(1)Novice English teachers in junior high schools can formulate classroom rules in advance and post them in the classroom,but there is no uniform standard in the implementation process.(2)Novice English teachers in junior high schools can pay attention to the importance of classroom environment management,but the classroom atmosphere and the relationship between teachers and students need to be improved.(3)Classroom problem behaviors occur from time to time.Most novice English teachers in junior high schools can take appropriate measures to solve their self-type problem behaviors without affecting the normal classroom progress,but for the behavior involving other types of problems,there is a single external control;In addition,there are few novice English teachers who can effectively prevent problem behaviors.(4)Most novice English teachers in junior high schools can conduct effective self-regulation,but self-reflection is superficial and not profound enough.Effective classroom management is the basic condition for the smooth implementation of teachers’ classroom teaching.However,novice English teachers are a special group and classroom management is also a dynamic development process,thus the research on classroom management of novice English teachers becomes a long-term topic.More experts,scholars,and front-line teachers are needed to be involved in doing the research. |
