| Grammar is one of the three key elements of language and the foundation of language ability.The level of students’ grammatical knowledge directly affects their language understanding and expression.Both teachers and students have made great efforts in English teaching and learning.However,it is shown that English grammar teaching in senior high schools is a little dull.As a result,the teaching results are not ideal,students do not show great interests in grammar learning,and the phenomenon of students learning without using is still widespread.The National Curriculum Standard of English for Ordinary High School advocates guiding students to apply their grammar knowledge to practice and to use while learning,thus form a grammar system which contains form,meaning and use of the grammar.Therefore,it is urgent to change the current single English grammar teaching method,and to explore new ones which suit students better and can improve students’ grammar level and overall language competency.POA is full of Chinese characteristics and aims at solving the problem of Chinese students’ learning without using.So far,its theoretical system has been gradually improved and it has been applied in various colleges and middle schools.Therefore,based on Input Hypothesis,Output Hypothesis and Three-Dimensional Grammar,this study applies the Production-Oriented Approach to English grammar teaching in senior high school.This study aims to explore the following three questions:(1)How to apply the POA to English grammar teaching in senior high school?(2)How does the application of POA to English grammar teaching in senior high school affect students’ interest and attitude in grammar learning?(3)How does the application of POA to English grammar teaching in senior high school affect students’ grammar competence?Based on the above questions,this study selected two classes of senior one in a high school in Kaizhou district,Chongqing as the experimental objects.Firstly,the second part of the first joint examination results of the two classes were used as the pretest results to analyze the current differences in grammar ability of the two classes and a questionnaire survey on students’ interest and attitude in grammar learning was carried out in the experimental class before the teaching experiment.Secondly,a threemonth grammar teaching experiment based on Production-Oriented Approach was conducted in the experimental class,while the control class still conducted grammar teaching by using the traditional PPP model.Both classes were taught by the same teacher.Thirdly,the results of the second part of the second joint examination of the two classes were taken as the post-test results,and a second questionnaire survey and interview were conducted in the experimental class.The data collected in the experiment were analyzed by SPSS25.0 after the experiment.Research findings:(1)POA based English grammar teaching method can improve students’ grammar learning interest and attitude;(2)POA based English grammar teaching method can effectively improve students’ grammar competence.In addition,this method attaches great importance to students’ participation in the class and is generally accepted by the teacher and students.Compared with the traditional grammar teaching method,this one can arouse students’ interest and enthusiasm in grammar learning better.This study also draws the following enlightenment: First,try to stimulate students’ thirst for knowledge through their classroom participation in motivating part;second,Teacher-Students Cooperative Assessment is significant in enabling part;third,teachers should provide students with appropriate learning materials;fourth,teachers should provide appropriate assistance as students complete output tasks. |
