The translation material is taken from chapters 3 and 4 of the book The Climate Demon by Ramalingam Saravanan.The book provides an objective analysis of the strengths and limitations of climate modeling and discusses the historical development,current challenges,and future trends of climate modeling.The excerpt focuses on the formation of the greenhouse effect and the development of climate modeling.As the excerpt,a typical scientific text,is full of long sentences,causing great challenges to the translator,the report,thus,decides to center on the translation of long sentences.The back-transformation theory proposed by Nida,which advocates dividing long sentences into multiple kernel sentences and then transferring and restructuring them at the kernel level,provides guidance for the translation of long sentences in this report.In the translation process,the translator uses such translation techniques as inversion,embedding,division and synthesized translation,to solve the translation difficulties and strives to obtain a faithful and natural translation.This report attempts to use the back-transformation theory to guide the translation of long sentences and to enrich the study in the field of climate modeling.It is hoped that the report may strengthen people’s understanding of the current research of climate change when improving the translator’s translating ability.
