The pacification of Junggar was a major political and historical event in the Kang,Yong and Qian dynasties. After 70 years of bloody struggle,it was finally successfully pacified in the 20 th year of Qianlong’s reign(1755).Later,it was ranked as the top of the "Ten Complete Martial Arts" by Emperor Qianlong.Steles and drawings became a series of visual cultural projects to commemorate the victory of the war in Qianlong.Qian Weicheng drew the "Picture of Pingding Junggar" twice, which is now stored in the Palace Museum and the National Museum of China respectively. Both of the pictures are very special in the way of traditional literati painting to shape the scene of the Northwest War.According to previous research experience,it is inevitable to regard it as the relationship between "manuscript" and "positive map".Based on the information in the postscript and relevant historical documents, this paper examines the specific time and situation of the two maps.It is believed that the two pictures, based on the text of the Imperial Stele on the completion of the pacification of Junggar, are the presentation and summary of the two important stages of the "pacification of Junggar" war in the Qianlong Dynasty. Its narrative mode has changed from traditional "record of people" to "record of events",and the corresponding function of the work has also changed from eulogizing the achievements of officials to publicizing the "propaganda map" of imperial strategy.Qian Weicheng used the Jiangnan literati painting to shape the scene of the Northwest War,which coincided with the frontier governance policy of "conquering without war, conquering people with virtue" and the historical view of "unification" emphasized by the Qing emperor, and was part of the visual image construction of "cultural virtue" in the Qianlong Dynasty. In this process,Qian Weicheng played the dual role of Jiangnan elite and Qing government officials. On the one hand,he actively cooperated with the implementation of the Emperor’s "Great Unity" strategy, and on the other hand,he regretted the disappearance of the meaning of the "Great Wall".
