Water pattern,as one of the most classic traditional patterns in China, originates from the natural form of smooth, beautiful and elegant water, full of strong artistic charm, and is a universal and special decorative symbol element. With the passage of time, changes in social environment, and changes in people’s aesthetic taste, water patterns continue to develop. With their long history and unique combination forms, they are widely used in daily life to express an emotional attachment and a longing for a better life. This topic takes the water lines in the Ming and Qing dynasties as the research object.First,it summarizes the current situation of water lines in the Ming and Qing dynasties at home and abroad through literature research. Then, based on the field research and case analysis of museums in various regions,it combs the development of water lines from the late Paleolithic to the Yuan Dynasty and the evolution of pattern forms, laying a foundation for the research of water lines in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Ming and Qing dynasties were the golden period for the development of water patterns in Chinese culture. The types and forms of water patterns continued to enrich and evolve throughout history, and developed into three different forms of water patterns: curved water patterns, falling flowers and flowing water patterns, and seawater and river cliff patterns. This not only presented strong characteristics of the times, but also demonstrated the aesthetic characteristics of traditional Chinese culture. In addition, the cultural connotations of water patterns during the Ming and Qing dynasties were analyzed using case analysis methods, mainly from three aspects: the auspicious meaning of "happiness, longevity, and happiness",the service spirit of "the highest goodness is like water",and the ideological connotation of "softness with hardness",revealing the unique charm of water patterns in different ideological connotations.Secondly, apply the theoretical foundation of water patterns from the Ming and Qing dynasties to design principles, providing corresponding theoretical support for design methods.Extract the pattern elements of water patterns from the Ming and Qing dynasties and reconstruct them separately using the TRIZ principle.Based on this, use shape grammar to derive the reconstructed individual patterns and transform them into suitable patterns or continuous patterns. Then extract the colors of water patterns from the Ming and Qing dynasties and change their purity and brightness through the PCCS color system, designing eight innovative water pattern designs that have both traditional elements and contemporary aesthetic values. Finally, based on the analysis and exploration mentioned earlier, combined with online questionnaire surveys, the application of water patterns in modern museum cultural and creative products and home furnishings is applied, utilizing the form and significance of water patterns to enhance the aesthetic and cultural connotations of the design. For example,in museum cultural and creative products, the elements of water patterns can be used to design cultural and creative products with rich visual effects, enhancing the aesthetics and user experience of the products; In household products, water patterns can be used to create a romantic and elegant atmosphere, making the entire space more harmonious and beautiful. In summary, this study conducted in-depth research on the origin, cultural connotations, types, and artistic characteristics of water patterns during the Ming and Qing dynasties.Using them as a pattern material library, based on certain design principles and methods,we conducted pattern derivative design and applied the newly generated patterns to the field of modern cultural and creative product design, promoting and inheriting traditional Chinese culture while promoting the development of modern cultural and creative product design.
