Freedom is an important category of Marxist philosophy, and the theory of freedom constructs the whole Marxist philosophy, which is also a problem that Marx explored all his life.Marx’s thought of freedom came into being in the era of the intensification of inherent contradictions in capitalism, when human alienation intensified and the labor movement in capitalist countries flourished.Based on the social reality at that time,Marx gradually formed the free thought system of historical materialism in the course of the development of his own thought on the basis of sublating the free thought of his predecessors.Marx’s thought of freedom is based on his view of practice.Marx believes that practice is the basis of freedom, and the subject of freedom can only be realistic people who are engaged in realistic production and carry the connotation of specific relations of production, and human freedom can only be finally realized in the development of practice. The continuous development of productive forces is the fundamental condition for the realization of freedom, and the whole developing historical process marked by the evolution of ownership relations is the field for the realization of freedom.Standing at the height of practical philosophy,Marx demonstrated the meaning of freedom from many dimensions. He criticized the concept of freedom in bourgeois political philosophy, integrated the various connotations of freedom in the traditional view of freedom with scientific practice and materialist dialectics, and broke the previous situation in which philosophers studied freedom from the perspective of metaphysics.and break through the limitation that bourgeois political philosophy mainly pays attention to political freedom, and explore the real freedom as the goal of human liberation from the philosophical level.By analyzing the real human nature,Marx revealed the meaning of human liberation and pointed out the ideal of free personality, that is,the free and all-round development of human beings.Furthermore,by expounding the relationship between necessity and freedom, this paper points out the path and historical development law of realizing human freedom from the realm of necessity to the kingdom of freedom.Marx’s thought of freedom aims at realizing the freedom and liberation of all mankind, and it still has extremely important theoretical and practical value to the development of contemporary society. This thought gives us a lot of enlightenment in the aspects of human development, social and political civilization construction, economic construction, ideological and cultural construction, social ecological civilization construction and so on.It is still the guiding light in the historical process of human pursuit of freedom.
