| In recent years,due to the global impact of the epidemic,there has been a marked change in the way transnational and cross-regional academic exchange events are held,with increasingly convenient sharing of resources between different schools and a hot demand for online academic forums and lectures in foreign languages.This paper is a simulated practice report of medical simultaneous interpreting from English to Chinese.The interpreting task described is a medical lecture on “Cancer Metastasis” at John Hopkins University School of Medicine.As there are often difficulties in the medical field due to differences in terminology and logical expressions between different languages,simultaneous interpreting was chosen to avoid translation deficiencies caused by memory,notes and the accumulation of too much terminology in a short period of time.In the relatively specific case of medical lectures,due to the different linguistic and cultural backgrounds between the speaker and the audience,the interpreter should pay more attention to the message itself and the equivalence of the communicative effect.The linguistic constraints should be abandoned in order to achieve a better understanding.The interpretive theory is of great importance to medical interpreting.This paper is guided by interpretive theory and focuses on the issues involved in this interpreting,such as the translation of medical terms,addition of emotional interaction,the addition and deletion of filler words and the translation of passive voice.It consists of five main sections: introduction,task description,interpretive process,case study,and conclusion.The author draws the following conclusions from the description of the task and the case study: the preparation before interpreting is one of the most important aspects,besides,the interpreter should continuously improve his or her psychological quality and the use of interpreting skills. |
