Under the background of global integration and development, the Chinese community always falls into the conflict between identity consciousness and cultural identity when facing the problems of multi-language environment, dual cultural identity and multiple identity, resulting in the dilemma of cultural identity. This paper takes the dilemma of Ethnic Chineses’ cultural identity as the entry point, adopts the research method of psychobiography, and takes Ku Hongming,a Chinese citizen,as the research object.Irving Alexander’s "Basic Indicators of psychological salience" and William Todd Schultz’s "Archetypal scenarios" were used for data identification and screening, and Nvivo 11.0 qualitative analysis software was used for data coding.Based on detailed data, this paper explores Ku Hongming’s construction of national identity and cultural identity by answering two questions:(1)Why he loves Chinese traditional culture while growing up in the Western "advanced" cultural atmosphere?(2)Why did Ku Hongming,a Malaysian-Chinese of mixed-race origin, insist that he was Chinese all his life? Finally,a model of the overall cognitive imbalance of Chinese cultural identity dilemma based on Ku Hongming’s life story is constructed. The research shows that Ku Hongming’s life story is a story about striving for "identity".The process of constructing "identity" shows the following characteristics:(1)The construction of identity starts from the germination of early identity consciousness, and finally makes the creative decision of cross-cultural identity;(2)There are two different conflict paths between the first and last paths: the internal conflict path composed of the identity preference laid by the early experience, the learning path and the shogunate life, the thought systemization after precipitation, and the behavior tendency of the identity;External conflict path composed of multiple dilemmas and building capacity limited by the conflict between host and client.Because they are at the center of cultural conflicts,Ethnic Chinese are more susceptible to the interference of multiple identities and the influence of cultural conflicts in the process of identity construction. In terms of "identity",Ethnic Chinese show the following characteristics:(1)The presupposition of "identity" guides the interpretation of the world;(2)The process of identity construction is affected by both internal and external conflicts;(3)It is difficult to fully demonstrate individual building capacity due to the conflict between host and client. As participants in civilization construction, the essence of why Ethnic Chinese are prone to identity dilemma lies not only in the environment, but also in the negative premise of subjective cognitive construction based on the belief that multiple cultural conflicts will inevitably lead to contradictions.Under the influence of thinking presupposition, when the Ethnic Chinese are unconsciously bound by the dual development path of psychology and environment,it is easy to balance if assimilation develops smoothly to the adaptation stage. If assimilation fails to translate into adaptation, imbalances and conflicts may arise. In the course of Ku Hongming’s life, there are not only the struggle and surrender to the environment, but also the act of sticking to his heart.Through sorting out Ku Hongming’s pursuit of "identity",we can obtain the following enlightenment:(1)Distinguish between the objective level of civilization conflict and the subjective level of self-inherent conflict;(2)Dilute the distinction and seek the similarity of civilization;(3)Internalization is beneficial to counterbalance conflicts;(4)Explicit behaviors actively practice the behavioral tendency of identification.
