A Study On The Composition Technique Of Lyric Variations For Ethnic Orchestral Music In Liu Chang Yuan

The contemporary Chinese composer Liu Chang Yuan,whose compositions mainly focus on the field of folk orchestral music,is devoted to the development of folk music symphonization,and the Lyric Variations is the representative work among his many folk orchestral pieces.This paper takes the Lyric Variations for folk orchestra as the research object,and conducts a comprehensive study of its composition background,core elements and development characteristics of the thematic material,horizontal pitch organization,vertical pitch organization,characteristics of rhythm and meter,composition structure,variation and orchestration techniques,etc.,in order to explore the composition techniques and composition concepts of this work,and then improve the author’s own composition level.The study shows that this work incorporates modern musical vocabulary such as octave,block chords,polyphony,polytonality and panchordality on the basis of traditional music,and also incorporates the structural features of two-part,three-part and iambic pentameter on the basis of the variation structure,which shows the composer’s innovative development of traditional music on the basis of traditional composing techniques and modern composing techniques,and also It also shows the direction for us to inherit and develop traditional music.The study of the composition technique of this work aims to provide a reference for the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional music and the creation of contemporary folk orchestral music,as well as to explore new paths for the symphonization of folk music.
