Translating academic writings of folklore tourism requires a integration of culture and academic translations. The key to translating such academic writings is to ensure the accurate transmission of academic knowledge and achieve the purpose of folklore culture communication simultaneously.During the translation process, the priority should be given to preciseness and accuracy. In addition, acceptability and cultural connotations should be paid special attention in translating cultural information.Based on the C-E translation task of Ethnic Folklore Tourism in Western China, the translator takes the three rules of Skopos theory as the theoretical framework to explore how to use effective translation methods or techniques to solve translation difficulties and achieve the communicative purpose of the text.Based on the three rules of Skopos theory and the text analysis,it is found that the main translating difficulties lie in the large number of culture-loaded words, technical terms and long and complex sentences, which also constitutes the main linguistic characteristics of the text at the lexical and syntactical levels. In order to deliver cultural connotations of culture-loaded words, ensure the accuracy, exclusiveness and motivation of terms and guarantee the readability and acceptability of long and complex sentences, the translator puts forward relevant solutions under the analytic framework of three rules, such as literal translation and zero translation for terms, free translation and transliteration with annotation for culture-loaded words as well as division and shift for long and complex sentences.Through the flexible use of the above methods, the translation can achieve more ideal communicative purpose. Two implications are drawn from the translation practice.Firstly, the choice of translation theories, methods or techniques must be based on the text type and language features.Secondly, the translation is a process of comprehension and adaptation as well as a process of finding and solving problems.Sometimes, conversion at the linguistic and cultural levels takes place simultaneously. Therefore, facing the translation of academic writings themed by culture, the translator needs to ensure the accurate transmission of academic information with the help of effective translation techniques and methods. At the same time, cultural default should be avoided as much as possible in culture translation to achieve the purpose of cultural communication.
