English writing,as a language output skill,is an important indicator of students’ comprehensive English language using competence.However,currently,there are still many problems with English writing teaching in China.The phenomena of “emphasis on input but not on output” and “separation of learning and using” are common.Production-Oriented Approach(POA),proposed by Wen Qiufang,is a foreign language teaching theory with Chinese characteristics.POA advocates the teaching principle of“input-output integrated” and aims to build an integrated teaching procedure of “motivating,enabling,and assessing”.In the context of education informatization,blended teaching,integrating the advantages of online instruction and offline teaching,becomes more and more popular.It is of great practical significance to apply blended teaching to junior high school English writing teaching.Therefore,this study combines POA with blended teaching model and applies it to English writing teaching in junior high school.The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of POA in blended teaching model on students’ writing achievements,and the effects of POA in blended teaching model on junior high school students’ English writing motivation.This study took 97 students in Grade 8 of Minyang Experimental School as research subjects.The experimental class(EC)adopted POA in blended teaching model and the control class(CC)adopted Process Approach(PA)for a 12-week teaching experiment.The study used pretest and post-test papers,questionnaires,and interviews to investigate the changes in students’ English writing achievements before and after the experiment,as well as the changes in writing motivation.The relevant data collected from the experiment were statistically analyzed by SPSS 24.0.The results of the study showed that:(1)The application of POA in blended teaching model can effectively improve junior high school students’ English writing achievements,mainly in the aspects of“language”,“content” and “organization” with the most significant improvement in content.(2)The application of POA in blended teaching model has a positive effect on junior high school students’ English writing motivation,in terms of “self-efficacy”,“intrinsic motivation”,and “extrinsic motivation” with the most significant increase in self-efficacy.In addition,the author also pointed out the implication,limitations,and suggestions for future research on the application of POA in blended teaching model to junior high school English writing teaching.
