With the continuous updating of English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education and teachers’ pursuit of efficient classrooms, the teaching mode of English classrooms is also advancing with the times. For English learners in China, listening, speaking, reading and writing are necessary language skills. However, most English teachers in China pay more attention to improving students’ reading, writing, and listening, and ignore the training of students’ oral skills.English film and TV resources can help students learn English knowledge, understand the culture of English-speaking countries, improve their interest in English learning, and better cultivate their oral expression ability. Therefore,it is of research value to apply English film and TV resources to junior high school students’ oral teaching.Based on the Input Hypothesis, the Output Hypothesis, the Affective Filter Hypothesis, and the Multimodal Discourse Analysis, this study focuses on the influence of the application of English film and TV resources in the oral English teaching of junior high school on students’ oral English achievements and oral English learning attitudes.Qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis were adopted to figure out the following two research questions:(1)What are the effects of using English film and TV resources on the oral English achievements of junior high school students?(2)What are the effects of using English film and TV resources on junior high school students’ oral English learning attitudes? In order to deal with the two research questions above,a 12-week teaching experiment was made in a middle school in Chongqing,80 students from Grade 7 were chosen as the research subjects. The research instruments consist of oral tests and questionnaires.During the experiment,English film and TV resources were applied to oral teaching in the experimental class, while students of the control class were taught under the guidance of the traditional oral teaching method. After the experiment,SPSS software was used to make comparative analyses of oral achievements and questionnaire data between the two classes. The results of this research show that:(1)Through the analysis of oral English scores measured before and after the experiment,it is found that the application of English film and TV resources in oral English teaching can effectively improve students’ oral English achievements.(2)Compared with the students in the control class, students in the experimental class have more interest in learning spoken English and Western culture by analyzing the questionnaires before and after the experiment. Finally,by exploring the effects of English film and TV resources on junior high school students’ oral achievements and attitudes, this research confirms the feasibility of applying English film and TV resources to oral English teaching in junior high school. The application of selected English film and TV resources to oral teaching can greatly improve students’ English oral achievements and interest in English oral learning, thus truly improving students’ oral communication ability.
