In the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition),cultivating students' oral English ability is the core of comprehensive English language application ability. In the traditional oral English teaching, there are many problems such as simplification practice and limited time, which make it difficult for students to improve their oral English effectively. In recent years, more and more studies have been conducted on the use of movies to assist oral English teaching. The rich context presented by the film helps students to experience the authenticity of language and stimulate their enthusiasm for oral English expression. However, the films cover a wide range of subjects, some of which even contain violence or pornography, which is not conducive to the physical and mental health of teenagers.English animated movies are more suitable for teenagers' learning needs because of their interesting, entertaining and appropriate content.Based on Krashen's Input Hypothesis,Swain's Output Hypothesis,Piaget's Cognitive-Developmental Theory, this study makes use of English animated movies to assist the oral English teaching of junior high school students' oral English by using Jeremy Harmer's oral activities in How to Teach English to provide guidance. The research questions are as follows:(1)Can auxiliary of English animated films improve the oral English learning interest of junior high school students?(2)How to improve the junior high school students' oral English ability by using English animated films?Based on the above two questions, this study took 80 students from two classes of grade 7 in a middle school of Nanchang as the research subjects. These two classes were divided into control group and experimental group. This study carried out three rounds of action research.Data were collected through questionnaires and oral English tests, and T-test analysis of independent samples and paired samples was carried out using SPSS19.0 software. The results of the questionnaire survey show that the use of animated English movies to assist oral English teaching can enhance the interest of junior high school students in oral English learning. The data from the oral English tests showed that the oral English ability of the experimental group improved after three rounds of action research.According to the results of each independent part of oral English competence, the chart analysis shows that the oral English competence of the experimental group has improved greatly in pronunciation and intonation, lexical diversity and fluency. Finally, this study puts forward some suggestions on the theme selection of English animated movies, the value guidance of content, the effective management of classroom grouping and the hardware infrastructure investment of relevant teaching management departments.
