| As a master of modern Chinese painting,Li Keran believed that it was very important to study traditional art in depth and to draw on its essence in order to enhance one’s artistic creativity.In 1947,at the age of forty,Li Keran was recommended by Xu Beihong to study under Qi Baishi and became his favourite disciple.Qi Baishi was a renowned master of modern art,very good at portraying flowers,birds,insects and fish,as well as having deep attainments in the fields of figure painting and landscape painting.His paintings are loved for their grand and atmospheric brushwork,bright and vivid colours,simple and vivid forms,and simple and simple moods.Li Keran gained the essence of Qi Baishi’s art through his ten years as a teacher and student,and in addition to learning the control of brushwork,he also created his own brushwork and style,becoming the world-renowned ’father of modern landscape painting’.Through a comparison of Qi Baishi’s works with those of Li Keran,and a comparison of Li Keran’s pre and post-paintings,this paper identifies,examines and summarises the new painting style that Li Keran developed through his borrowing and fusion of Qi Baishi’s paintings.An in-depth analysis of Qi Baishi’s influence on the formation of Li Keran’s painting style and an exploration of Li Keran’s inheritance,development and innovation of traditional techniques will be useful for the study of Li Keran’s figures and the study of landscape painting creation.This article focuses on three aspects of Li Keran’s early painting style,Qi Baishi’s influence on Li Keran’s painting style,and the painting style that Li Keran formed under Qi Baishi’s influence.The article is divided into five chapters: Chapter1 collects and collates information on Li Keran’s early paintings,and discusses Li Keran’s early painting style in terms of the language of brush and ink,the overall effect of the picture and the inscriptions;Chapters 2 to 4 are the key chapters of this article,analysing the influence of Qi Baishi. |
