The occurrence of infectious diseases has adversely affected people’s physical and mental health.Paying attention to the mental health of college students in the context of the epidemic remains one of the key work points of the Healthy China Initiative.Previous studies focused on discussing the mental health status of college students during infectious diseases or providing psychological intervention countermeasures during the epidemic of existing infectious diseases, but have not conducted more in-depth research on the mental health of college students under the background of infectious diseases, that is,less attention to the relationship between various psychological variables of college students during infectious diseases. In addition, the National Health Commission points out that universities still need to do a good job in COVID-19 prevention and control, and strengthen ideological guidance and psychological counseling for students. Therefore, this study takes the COVID-19 pandemic as an example to explore the level of fear, loneliness, girt and quality of life of college students during COVID-19 pandemic and the related influencing factors,At the same time, establishing the relationship between variables in order to provide ideas for maintaining the mental health of college students under the background of infectious diseases.During the COVID-19 pandemic in May and September 2022,the study uses a convenient sampling method and adopts face-to-face measurement and Wenjuanxing combination of offline and online forms.818 college students from six universities in Yunnan,Shanghai,Beijing,Guangdong and Guizhou were measured and analyzed by means of the fear of COVID-19 scale, the Loneliness Scale, the Grit Scale, the WHOQOL-BREF.The research discovers that:(1)college students’ fear of COVID-19 was at a relatively high level during the COVID-19 pandemic.(2)Gender has an impact on college students’ fear of COVID-19.Male students’ fear level is significantly lower than that of female students.(3)The fear of COVID-19 has a significant negative predictive effect on the quality of life college students.(4)Loneliness plays a mediating role between the fear of COVID-19 and the quality of life of college students.(4)Consistency of interests which is one of the dimensions of girt plays a moderating role in the mechanism by which the fear of COVID-19 affects the quality of life of college students through loneliness. That is,with the improvement of the consistency of interests, the fear of COVID-19 is more likely to reduce the quality of life of college students by increasing their loneliness. This study will not only improve understanding of the impact of infectious diseases on the mental health of college students,it also suggests that mental health educators in colleges can maintain the mental health of college students from four aspects: setting up mental health education courses, enhancing the mental self-care ability of college students, paying attention to the evaluation and intervention of loneliness of college students, and developing diversified mental health activities.
