Nowadays, people’s pace of work and study is accelerating, social roles are changing, life pressure is increasing sharply, and more people show the phenomenon of procrastination.Procrastination refers to an individual voluntarily choosing to postpone the initiation of a planned action under the premise that procrastination may have serious consequences, and this process is often accompanied by emotional distress.Studies have shown that procrastination has a huge impact on people, but the analysis of adult procrastination and its causes is relatively lacking. Therefore,we need to deeply study the causes and mechanisms of adult procrastination. This study adopts the questionnaire survey method, using the "General Self-Efficacy Scale","Adult Procrastination Scale","Self-Control Scale","Time Management Tendency Questionnaire" to investigate the procrastination status of 488 working adults. The survey, including employees of enterprises and institutions,self-employed and other groups.Analyze the relationship between self-efficacy,time management tendency,self-control and procrastination, and use statistical methods such as correlation analysis and regression analysis to verify the hypothesis model. The results of the study are as follows:(1)Individuals’ self-efficacy and procrastination have significant differences in age and marital status.(2)There is a positive correlation between individuals’ self-efficacy,time management tendency and self-control,and there is a negative correlation between procrastination and self-efficacy,time management tendency and self-control.Individual self-efficacy,time management tendency, and self-control can negatively predict procrastination.(3)Individual’s time management tendency and self-control play a chain mediating role between self-efficacy and procrastination. This shows that adult self-efficacy can not only reduce the occurrence of procrastination by improving the level of time management tendency and self-control,but also enhance self-control by increasing the level of time management tendency, and finally reduce the occurrence of procrastination. From the above research results, the following conclusions can be drawn: adult self-efficacy can negatively predict procrastination behavior, time management tendency and self-control are the mediating variables between self-efficacy and procrastination behavior,self-efficacy is through time management tendency and self-control.Chain-mediated mediation of control affects procrastination.
