Relationship Among University-freshman' Academic Procrastination, Locus Of Control And Time Management Disposition

Procrastination is very common in daily life, which means to irrationally postpone the start and completion of tasks, study shows the delay behavior is prevalent in a cross-culture. Academic procrastination is defined which occur in learning scenario. Irrational time using is the main outer performance. Because course arrangements, learning methods, teaching time have much change in university and the freshman have more free time relatively, academic procrastination is exposed day and day. Academic procrastination is the way which the freshman is not suited to university life. So we study the characteristic and cause of the freshman's academic procrastination to help them adapt smoothly through the learning period. Locus of control is a stable individual personality factors and it can forecast a person behavior, so select this variables of this study to explore the impact on academic procrastination. Some studies have been conducted about time management disposition as a factor of personality, which partly results in academic procrastination, because few have done with consideration of Locus of control and time management disposition simultaneously. The limitation provides the impetus for this study to investigate the combinatory effect of the two factors above mentioned on academic procrastination.This study used questionnaires to investigate 540 freshmen in the university,and the conclusions were as following:(1) In all, the freshman didn't procrastination frequently on academic procrastination.. The procrastination of academic task significantly is lower college students on other tasks'procrastination.(2) There is no significant different between academic procrastination and other tasks'procrastination on city or country and gender; there is no significant between academic procrastination and other task's procrastination on city or country.(3) It was found that the reasons of Procrastination were fear of failure,rebellion,aversiveness of task,time management ,lack of assertion,and risk-taking by factor analysis,and there were difference on gender among fear of failure,rebellion,aversiveness of task。(4) Academic procrastination and other task's procrastination have negative correlation with time management and its three dimensions, but which have significant correlation with the locus of control.(5) The locus of control has a negative correlation with time management and its three dimensions. Internal control group lower external control group on time management and its three dimensions(6) The locus of control and time management disposition has combinatory effects upon academic procrastination and could predict it. Among them, locus of control influences academic procrastination directly, while time control does both directly and indirectly. The locus of control acts as mediator on the sense of time efficacy and academic procrastination.
