The Relationship Between Adult Attachment And Intimate Satisfaction: The Mediating Effect Of Autobiographical Memory And The Moderating Effect Of Emotional Regulation Strategies

Cultivating intimacy in human relationships is a basic human motivation.For most adults,intimacy is one of the most important relationships in life.Because being in a satisfying relationship is a strong predictor of mental health,life satisfaction,and physical health,it is valuable to identify the factors and mechanisms that influence relationship satisfaction.Previous studies have shown that adult attachment is an important predictor of relationship satisfaction;however,the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood.There have been many speculations about the mechanisms that promote adult intimacy,most notably social-emotional motivation and interpersonal processes.However,the mechanism of emotion regulation and memory has received relatively little attention.The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between adult attachment and intimate relationship satisfaction,as well as the mechanism of autobiographical memory and emotion regulation strategies on adult attachment and intimate relationship satisfaction.In this study,800 people in Kaifeng city,Henan province,who had a romantic relationship for more than 3 months,were tested by the intimate relationship Experience Scale(ECR),positive and negative emotion Examination Scale(PANAS),Emotion Regulation Strategy Scale(ERQ)and intimate relationship satisfaction Scale(QRI).EXCEL2010 was used to input data,and after eliminating invalid questionnaires,SPSS21.0 was used to convert the reverse question score and score each dimension to complete data sorting.After that,common method bias,independent sample T test,Conduct correlation analysis,mediation analysis,and adjusted mediation analysis.Investigation report:(1)There are significant gender differences in the attachment anxiety dimension of adult attachment.In the emotion regulation strategies,the expression inhibition dimension has significant difference in gender.(2)In adult attachment,the dimension of attachment anxiety is positively correlated with the expression inhibition dimension of emotion regulation strategy,and is positively correlated with both positive and negative emotion dimensions of autobiographical memory.The dimension of attachment avoidance was negatively correlated with the dimension of cognitive reappraisal and intimate relationship satisfaction,and positively correlated with the negative emotion of autobiographical memory.In the emotion regulation strategy,cognitive reappraisal dimension has a significant positive correlation with positive emotion in autobiographical memory.The expression inhibition dimension is positively correlated with both positive and negative emotions in autobiographical memory.There is a significant positive correlation between intimate relationship satisfaction and cognitive reappraisal of emotion regulation strategies,and a significant positive correlation between it and positive emotion of autobiographical memory.(3)The positive and negative emotional dimensions of autobiographical memory played a mediating role between attachment anxiety and intimate relationship satisfaction.The cognitive reappraisal dimension of emotion regulation strategy played a significant moderating role in the second half of the mediating path of attachment anxiety dimension of adult attachment,negative emotion dimension of autobiographical memory and intimate relationship satisfaction(attachment anxiety dimension →negative emotion dimension → intimate relationship satisfaction).The expression of emotion regulation strategy suppress dimension in adult attachment attachment anxiety dimension,autobiographical memory of negative emotional dimension on intimate relationship satisfaction of intermediary path(attachment anxiety dimension→ negative emotional dimension→ intimate relationship satisfaction)during the second half of the play a significant regulatory role,and in between attachment anxiety and relationship satisfaction.Conclusion: Attachment type and autobiographical memory can effectively influence the level of intimate relationship satisfaction,and emotion regulation strategy plays an important role in it.
