Adult Attachment Style And The Loving-time Of Dating Or Married People On Intimate Relationship Satisfaction: The Difference And Prediction

Intimate relationship satisfaction is the main criteria of the quality of dating or marriage, what’s more, different attachment styles has different intimate relationship satisfaction. Coupled with the social phenomenon, the loving-time of dating or married people also affected on relationship. In this study, the different loving-time of dating or married people and their attachments on relationship satisfaction are explored, which can enrich the adult attachment, intimacy theory, and provide some reference for marriage counseling.The attachment was tested by the Chinese revision of Experience of Close Relationship scale(ECR) and it was divided into four levels, namely, security type, preoccupied type, dismissing type and fearful type. The loving-time of dating or married was typed into five levels namely, 1 year below, 1-3 years, 3-7 years, 7-20 years and beyond 20 years. The close relationship satisfaction was tested by the Quality of Relationship Index scale(QRI) which was divided into initial, current and the overall relationship satisfaction.The study inquired 63 couples with ECR and QIR which were merged to one scale, what’s more, the QRI was composed with the current relationship and the initial relationship.The results were stated as follows:(1)Gender, relationship status, family seat, whether the only-child and whether the level of education for college students as well as distribution in the attachment types and relationship both did not differ. However, the person who accessed into secondary education is higher than the person who accessed into high school in the initial intimate relationship satisfaction and overall satisfaction on intimacy.(2) For different attachment of people, their current relationship satisfaction existed differences. Secure individuals were more satisfying than insecure individuals. But individuals of preoccupied type were more satisfying than the other two insecure individuals.(3) For different attachment and different loving-time of dating or married people, their initial relationship satisfaction existed differences. Secure individuals were more satisfying than dismissing and fearful ones; the 3-7 years ones were higher than the 1 year below and the 1-3 years ones; the 20 years were higher than 1-3 years; the 3-7 years and the 20 years has no difference.(4) For different loving-time of dating or married people, their overall relationship satisfaction didn’t exist difference, but for different attachment of people, security were higher than dismissing and fearful type, and preoccupied higher than fearful.(5) College students or not, and whether the only child or not coupled withe falling in love or was marriage state can predicted an intimate relationship satisfaction, what’s more, they can explain the close relationship satisfaction now 17% variation.(6)Degree of intimacy now satisfaction and overall satisfaction intimate relationships was respectively negative affected, and it respectively was explained the variation is 26% and 21% in satisfaction.(7)The dismissing type has a negative prediction for the initial, current and overall intimate relationship and the R2 respectively are 0.23, 0.09 and 0.20.Thus, according to the above study, the conclusions are as follows:(1) The adult attachment and intimacy satisfaction distribute stabilized across most demographic variables, however, the education background affect on the initial and the overall close relationship satisfaction.(2) In an intimate relationship satisfaction, the secure attachment of individuals are better than the non-secure attachment of the individual.(3) Along with the increases of loving-time of dating or married time, their initial intimacy satisfaction gradually increased; however, the loving-time of dating or married time has no difference for the overall intimate relationship satisfaction.(4) The person who not access into the high school, is the child-not only and falls in love more likely to lead to higher in the ow intimate relationship satisfaction.(5) The person who not access into the high school compared to individuals who access into it, more likely to lead to lower current intimate relationship satisfaction and overall satisfaction with intimacy.(6)The people of dismissing type usually lead to the low relationship satisfaction.
