The Relationship Between Adult Attachment And Relationship Satisfaction Of College Students

Based on adult attachment theory and combined with previous studies, we explore the relationship between adult attachment, emotion regulation strategies and relationship satisfaction. At the same time, we also investigate the mediating role of emotion regulation strategies. In the field of psychology, the adult attachment, emotion theory, and emotion regulation research issues are abundant, but from different dimensions of adult attachment to explain differences of individuals to their satisfaction in intimate relationships are still not very prosperous, so there is lack of corresponding conclusions. Set aside the direct impacts on adult attachment relationship satisfaction, there’re many other factors playing an indirect role on people, like cognition, emotion and behaviors. It is worth psychologists to conduct in-depth study of this problem. Thus, the present study takes ever aluniversities in Hohhot area to totaling 405 college students conducted a survey, using three questionnaires:Intimacy Experience Survey Scale (ECR), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and Relationship Satisfaction Questionnaire, the reliability and validity of the three questionnaires all meet the standards. The mainly final statistical analysis including:the present situation analysis, the correlation and the regression of adult attachment of college students in love, emotion regulation strategies and relationship satisfaction, and whether there are mediating effect analysis. Finally we draw the following conclusions:(1) There are no significant differences in the two dimensions of adult attachment, two dimensions of emotional regulation strategies and relationship satisfaction in the demographic variables.(2) Different levels of attachment avoidance affect the choice and use of emotion regulation strategies.(3) Adult attachment and emotion regulation strategies are important factors to affect the relationship satisfaction. Attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, cognitive reappraisal, expression suppression can effectively predict the lovers’relationship satisfaction and the explanation rate is 24.2%.(4) There are significant correlations between adult attachment, emotion regulation strategies and relationship satisfaction.(5) Cognitive re-evaluation strategy acts as mediator in the relationship between attachment avoidance and relationship satisfaction.
