As a leading figure in contemporary literature,Tie Ning’s novels are rich and complex in content and characteristics, but the country and the city have always been the source and the focus of her novels. Therefore, the paper takes the periodic changes in the urban-rural writing of Tie Ning’s novels in the past 30 years as the main line, and places them in the background of the transformations of Chinese society. It analyzes the changes of city and country in the context of modernization, the changes of urbanrural relations, and the living conditions and spiritual dilemmas of “human beings”under the urban-rural interaction. The paper is divided into three sections. The introductory part discusses the status of the writing of city and country since the New Age of China, and then leads to the situation and characteristics of Tie Ning’s novels on city and country. Finally, the current status of research on Tie Ning’s novels is briefly reviewed, and the research content and value of this paper are introduced on the basis of the previous research results. The main text is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, based on the analysis of Tie Ning’s identification of political identity and the generation of unique identity of the educated youth, and combined with the novel Night Road, discusses Tie Ning’s writing in the period when she went to the country. On the one hand,Tie Ning’s writing on the country conforms to the mainstream consciousness, presenting the politicized country under the care of the cultural “other”.On the other hand,Tie Ning’s writing of the educated youth presents the obvious attitude of departure. She integrates her sincere feelings into the country, showing the poetic beauty of the country of nature and humanity, and completes the transcendence of the mainstream ideology by writing about the different “scars” and the return tide of educated youth. The second chapter discusses Tie Ning’s reflections on city and country from the perspective of modernization in the 1980 s,by combining her creation of city and country at the beginning of her return to the city.In the interplay between city and country,Tie Ning describes the na?ve reverie and collective longing of the country for the city and modern civilization in the 1980 s,showing the current situation of rural poverty and humility,as well as the spiritual transmutation and embarrassment encountered by the country in the course of social reform and practice. At the same time,Tie Ning juxtaposes and compares the experience of city life with that of country life, showing the alienation of relationships in the city through the disconnection between people and the relationships between different classes. The third chapter combines Tie Ning’s works of the 1990 s and the new century to show Tie Ning’s worries about the urban-rural dilemma under the relationship of market economy.By writing about the moral anomy of the country, the changing fate of rural women, and the living state and spiritual confusion of ordinary citizens,Tie Ning contemplates the city and the country under the encroachment of modern commercial civilization. In addition,by writing about the living conditions and spiritual experiences of urban aliens,Tie Ning shows the spiritual exchange and spiritual collision of people in the communication between the city and country, and expounds her own reflection on the modernity of the dualistic structure of urban and rural culture. The fourth chapter explores the aesthetic tendency and subject choice of Tie Ning under the urban and rural changes and the heterogeneous cultures. In the face of the urban and rural changes in the process of modernization and the prominent crisis of modernity,Tie Ning seeks for the inner habitat of the spirit, and finally takes the filtered countryside as the spiritual home. And "Ben Hua" is the concrete expression of Tie Ning’s ideal home. Conclusion: Summarize the transformation of Tie Ning’s urban-rural writing and analyze the social significance and limitations of Tie Ning’s urban-rural writing in contemporary literature.Tie Ning’s urban-rural writing not only has sociological significance in studying the urban-rural development of China and urban-rural relations, but also has important cultural value for the current consumerist society dominated by commodity economy. However, the limitation lies in the fact that Tie Ning’s real rural life experience is still relatively less, and the understanding of the countryside is still idealized. While pursuing the “beauty of neutrality”,the text’s critical intensity is relatively soft.
