Maurice Merleau-Ponty,a famous representative of French existentialist philosophy, argued in his phenomenology that the human body,as a natural being, contains in itself the occurrence of meaning, and that the prerequisite for life is the body, which Merleau-Ponty considered to be fundamental to the all-round development of human beings. With the rapid development of science and technology,Interaction Design is gradually integrated into every corner of society and life today, and there is an urgent need to explore the basis of design at the level of design theory. The study finds that there is a certain connection between the design principles of interactive experience design and Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of the body, and that the phenomenology of the body can be used as a theoretical guide to provide ideological guidance and methodological inspiration for the innovative development of interactive experience design.Based on the combination of theory and practice, this paper uses literature analysis, case study analysis and interdisciplinary research as research methods to explore the philosophical theory of Merleau-Ponty’s body phenomenology and interactive experience design, and to systematically sort out and objectively review the academic views and research orientations of the academic community on body phenomenology. On this basis,an attempt is made to present the application of Merleau-Ponty’s body phenomenology to the design of interactive experiences, forming four core sections:First, the origin and composition of Merleau-Ponty’s theory of the phenomenology of the body. This part aims to explore the ideological sources and theoretical contents of MerleauPonty’s philosophical theory of the phenomenology of the body, and to fully understand the essential connotation of the phenomenology of the body in a philosophical perspective. The phenomenological theory of the body is heavily driven by the philosophical theory of phenomenology. The four parts of the body’s perceptibility, the body’s spatiality, the body’s temporality and the body and the corporeal body constitute the phenomenology of the body, and are summarised and sorted out accordingly.Secondly, the theoretical foundations of interactive experience design. This part focuses on the theoretical and conceptual overview of interactive experience design as a design practice. With the emergence of the experience economy, the pleasure, satisfaction and identity brought about by the consumption process are valued, which has given a boost to the development of experience design.Interaction design products are designed to serve the everyday work and life of humans, where the concept of user experience is the focus of design and the key interaction design idea.Thirdly, the phenomenological features of the body in interactive experience design. This section focuses on finding the balance and common ground between interactive experience design and bodily phenomenology, and analyses the characteristics of the two in relation to each other. The four elements of interactive experience design-user,environment,emotion and senses-are each corresponding to the theoretical content of body phenomenology, thus further deepening the connection between the two.Fourthly, the theoretical application of Merleau-Ponty’s body phenomenology in interactive experience design. After determining the guiding role of body phenomenology theory in interactive experience design, this part thus summarizes and summarizes the design principles and design methods brought by body phenomenology to interactive experience design, and selects specific cases to demonstrate them, forming a support system between theory and practice.
