A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Romance Of Plant Life

In recent years,eco-environmental problem has been the focus of society.Plants,as an important part of nature,play a significant role in protecting the environment,which can not only provide rich resources and beautiful environment for nature and human beings,but also can transform harmful gases produced by human activities.All these prove that plants are closely related to the ecological environment.As a popular science work on plants,besides showing readers the natural science on plants,The Romance of Plant Life also tries to awaken the public’s attention to plant diversity and ecological environment protection.Based on the E-C translation practice of The Romance of Plant Life(chapters two to four)under the guidance of Text Typology Theory,the report analyzes how to solve the difficulties encountered in translation practice according to the different features of the texts.It is pointed out that translation is a process to transform the source text into the target text,and the main problems in the process include those on comprehension,expression and adaptation.Therefore,the translator analyzes the difficulties encountered in translation practice from the perspectives of “comprehension,expression and adaptation”.These problems focus on the comprehension of the background and the language details,as well as some problems related to expression,such as problems on conversion,rhetorical devices,cohesion and coherence,and Europeanized Chinese.Meanwhile,the importance of solving problems on adaptation is emphasized to improve readability and bridge the cultural gap.In order to make the translation conform to the features of different types of texts as much as possible,the report suggests that translators can adopt different flexible translation methods and techniques to solve the problems encountered in the translation process.The purpose of this report is to analyze how to solve the difficult problems encountered in the process of translation under the guidance of Text Typology Theory,so as to provide ideas for the translation of popular science texts on plants.Meanwhile,the translation of excellent popular science texts on plants will not only enrich the public’s knowledge of plant science,but also provide literature for related researches.
