Johannes Brahms was one of the most important artists in the romantic period of Germany.His music combined classicism with romanticism,formed his own distinctive personal style,and had a wide range of genres.Piano intermezzo was the essence of his creation and had great artistic value.Op.118 was Brahms’ s representative in later period of creation and spread widely.A lot of domestic and foreign famous pianists played this music,and many scholars deeply discussed it in every aspect.This paper contrastively studies the performance versions of Schiff,Sokolov and Zhang Haochen in combination with the authors’ personal study,analysis and performance practice.By analyzing the three performers’ music treatment characteristics in different pieces,this paper gives suggestions of listening more,comparing more,thinking more and grasping the entire music style in process of performance learning from aspects of music theory learning and performance practice process with purpose of interpreting this music in a better way.
