| Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is a biography written by Thomas Wentworth Higginson.Longfellow was a famous romantic poet in the 19 th century. This biography provides a comprehensive description of Longfellow’s four visits to Europe and his growth and achievements in literary history. The report chooses three chapters of the biography as the original text of this English-Chinese translation practice, expecting that it can enrich the domestic understanding of Longfellow and further spread Longfellow’s literary thoughts.Under the guidance of ecological translation theory, based on the characteristics of the original text such as excessive culture-loaded words and prominent communicative intention, the practice report applies the “three-dimensional”translation method of ecological translation theory to analyze the original text from three dimensions, namely, linguistic dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. In terms of linguistic dimension, the report analyzes from three aspects:conversion of parts of speech, shift of passive voice and the use of four-character structures. In the aspect of cultural dimension, the report analyzes the domestication of culture-loaded words. In terms of communicative dimension, the report mainly adopts two translation methods: the addition of the original meaning and free translation of communicative intention. In this translation practice report, the achievements and shortcomings of translation practice are summarized. This practice report can provide some references and cases for the application of ecological translation theories, especially for the translation of biographies in literary texts. |
