A Study On The Supplement Of Xinhua Daily And The Drama Movement In The Kuomintang Controlled Areas(1938-1947)

During the Anti-Japanese War,Chongqing,as the wartime capital,became an important political and cultural center in China,where cultural elites from all over the world gathered,promoting the prosperity of the cultural undertakings of the mountain city.With its intuitive and flexible performance methods,drama can better meet the practical needs of wartime propaganda and mobilization,so it stands out among many literary genres and becomes an important weapon on the literary and artistic front.At the same time,the establishment of the anti-Japanese national united front enabled the Communist Party newspaper Xinhua Daily to be publicly distributed nationwide,and the supplement took drama as the starting point to pay attention to and participate in the literary and artistic movement in the Guotong District,guiding the development of the progressive drama movement in the National Unification Area and providing a powerful position for the dissemination of literary and artistic policies and drama movement experience in the Liberated Area.In this way,the theater movement in the Guotong District centered on Chongqing flourished in the cultural field intertwined with multiple ideologies,opening a golden age in the history of Chinese drama with a unique development appearance.This article focuses on the historical materials of the drama preserved in the supplement of Xinhua Daily,and is divided into three parts: introduction,main text,and conclusion.The introduction part mainly introduces the reasons for the topic selection,research status,research methods and innovation points of this paper.The first chapter mainly introduces the establishment of the supplement of Xinhua Daily,a Communist Party newspaper qualified for public publication and distribution in the Guotong District,analyzes the background of the times,the actual environment and the cultural field in which the supplement was founded,and introduces the purpose and mission of the supplement in the Guotong District and its main development stages.As the mouthpiece of the Party and the people,the supplement is committed to disseminating the Communist Party’s literary and artistic principles and policies and promoting its creative practice,closely integrating reality when participating in the theatrical theoretical debate and drama criticism in the Guotong District,and at the same time having certain choices and trade-offs when reporting on the drama performance activities in the Guotong District,reflecting a distinct tendency.The second chapter focuses on the evolution and development of the drama movement in the Guotong District presented by the supplement,starting from summarizing the actual conditions of the drama movement in Chongqing during the Anti-Japanese War period,dividing the drama movement in the Guotong District into three stages to sort out its development overview,and then discussing in detail the evolution of the drama movement in the Guotong District from the two dimensions of subject type and creative theme,aesthetic style and performance form,and the supplement of Xinhua Daily presents the changes of the drama movement and participates in the drama movement.While promoting the development of the drama movement in the Guotong District,it has promoted the communication and exchange of the drama movement between the Liberated Area and the National Unification Region.Chapter 3 further expands the role played by the Xinhua Daily supplement in the development of the drama movement in the Liberated Area,on the one hand,the supplement adheres to the position and expression of the Liberated Areas,disseminates the literary and artistic policies and experiences of the Liberated Areas,and introduces the practical achievements of the Liberated Areas Drama Movement;On the other hand,the supplement participated in the theatrical controversy in the Guotong District,which further standardized the development direction of the theater movement.Chapter 4 summarizes the significance and value of the Xinhua Daily supplement in the drama movement in the Guotong District,which emphasizes the social function and political value of drama in the process of promoting the development of the drama movement in the Guotong District,inherits and carries forward the realist tradition of modern Chinese drama,and at the same time,the ideological game between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party and the differences in the literary concepts of intellectuals in the special cultural field of the Guotong District have a profound impact on the drama movement.
