With the development of the Internet, online social networking has gradually become a mainstream way for people to establish connections with others. However, while this brings convenience, its negative consequences lead to a variety of emotional and behavioral problems, which seriously affect people’s daily lives. Moreover, social network addiction has become a common phenomenon among college students, and many college students also have social network addiction tendency. Therefore, understanding the internal and external influencing factors of social network addiction tendency plays an important role in screening, prevention and intervention of this group.Domestic and foreign studies have shown that adult individuals with anxious attachment will be insecure in interpersonal relationships, and they will always control and closely monitor each other’s moments, and the immediacy and convenience of social networks enable them to know each other’s moments at any time and keep in touch with others. In addition, these people are overly worried about ending their relationships or being abandoned by their friends, which can lead to an anxiety called the fear of missing out. They want to know what others are doing at all times and fear they will miss something important. The fear of missing out will also cause individuals to over-rely on social networks to meet their basic psychological needs of connecting with the outside world.Additionally, the external environment can also affect individuals to develop social network addiction tendency. When individuals are faced with stressful situations,in order to cope with emotional problems caused by stress, they will also use social networks excessively to deal with it.Finally, individuals with addictive tendencies will also strengthen their sense of craving and use motivation when confronted with addiction-related stimuli. In summary, this study discussed the influencing factors of college students’ social network addiction tendency from two aspects: internal factors, anxious attachment and fear of missing out,and external environmental factors, stressful situations and stimulation of social network related cues, which provided a theoretical and practical foundation for further research. This research is conducted by a combination of quantitative research and experimental research, and includes three study parts. In the first study, the Chinese version of the ECR scale, the Chinese version of the Fear of Missing Out Scale and the Social network Addiction Tendency Scale of college students were used to explore the relationship between anxious attachment, fear of missing out and social network addiction tendency among college students and to explore the meditating role of fear of missing out.Study two was based on study one, participants were placed in stressful or non-stressful situations by using the recall writing task paradigm,so as to explore the influence of stressful situations on social network addiction tendency and to verify the moderating effect of stressful situations on the relationship between fear of missing out and social network addiction tendency.Study three was based on study two,cue-exposure paradigm was used to make participants accept social network-related picture stimuli or neutral picture stimuli,so as to explore the influence of social network-related picture stimuli on social network addiction tendency and to verify the moderating effect of effect of social network-related picture stimuli on the relationship between fear of missing and social network addiction tendency. The research conducted the following conclusions:1.The average score of college students’ social network addiction tendency was higher than the median value of the scale.Overall, college students had the tendency of social network addiction. However, there was no significant difference in gender, with sibling or not, residence or grade.2.Pearson correlation analysis showed that anxious attachment, fear of missing out and social network addiction tendency were significantly positively correlated with each other.3.After controlling for gender, age, residence, and with sibling or not,the fear of missing out partially mediated the relationship between anxious attachment and social network addiction tendency.4.After controlling for gender, age, and with sibling or not,the relationship between the fear of missing out and social network addiction tendency was moderated by the absence of stressful situations, and participants in stressful situations had a higher tendency to social network addiction.5.After controlling for gender, age, and with sibling or not,the relationship between the fear of missing out and social network addiction tendency was moderated by the absence of social network-related cues stimuli, and participants confronted with social network-related cues stimuli had a higher tendency to social network addiction. |
