The Miao bird pattern is a materialized image of the Miao spiritual culture,which is representative of many Miao patterns.It is derived from the Miao culture,which is due to the Miao’s primitive religious consciousness,historical experience of ethnic migration,and complex natural and geographical environment,resulting in the formation of the Miao’s complex,mysterious,and rich ethnic culture.These unique cultures have influenced the way Miao people understand and express the world,forming a unique visual aesthetic expression of Miao bird patterns.The uniqueness of the Miao bird pattern first stems from the Miao people’s concept that all things are spiritual,making the primitive Miao people believe that the relationship between humans and all things in nature is equal,and that humans are bred by certain objects in nature.In the most widely circulated myth and legend,the wag Yu bird hatched the human ancestor Jiang Yang,representing the original concept of life consciousness of the primitive Miao people.Therefore,it began to expand from spiritual space to the real world in the eyes of the Miao people,using natural images to express oneself in the real world.Secondly,due to the numerous branches and tribes of the Miao ethnic group,which are scattered during the development process,various branches have incorporated regional characteristics in the development process,resulting in changes in the visual expression of the Miao ethnic bird pattern;Secondly,it is the Miao people who have experienced a process of integration and separation from other ethnic groups during their historical migration.Therefore,the visual expression of the Miao people’s bird patterns has incorporated other ethnic visual elements,such as(dragon bird patterns,phoenix bird patterns,etc.)to make them have the symbolic significance of their own ethnic group,while also displaying the visual characteristics of other ethnic patterns.Based on the historical and cultural background of the Miao ethnic group,this article combs the origin,changes,and moral connotations of the Miao ethnic bird patterns from the perspectives of aesthetics,anthropology,and iconography,and summarizes the visual aesthetic characteristics of the Miao ethnic bird patterns as well as their aesthetic manifestations in the design of Miao ethnic clothing,jewelry,and modern products.The intention is to provide basic theoretical data for scholars studying the spiritual culture and even the culture of the Miao people by exploring the visual aesthetic characteristics of the bird patterns of the Miao people and their aesthetic manifestations in material carriers.First of all,the Miao bird pattern originated in the Miao culture,and has a deep historical origin with the Miao culture.The first chapter will trace the origin of Miao bird patterns and explore the origins and cultural connotations between Miao bird patterns and Miao myths and legends,Miao religious beliefs,and Miao folk activities.Secondly,the second chapter summarizes the three visual aesthetic characteristics of Miao bird patterns through the sorting out of the implied symbols of Miao bird patterns and the collection and arrangement of Miao bird patterns.This is discussed separately: First,the diverse visual aesthetic characteristics of the Miao bird pattern theme.The theme of Miao bird patterns stems from the imitation of objective objects and the reproduction of subjective imagination.The fusion of Miao patterns and other ethnic visual symbols in the history of Miao evolution,as well as the different geographical distribution of various branches of the Miao ethnic group in the history of migration,have enriched the theme of Miao bird patterns.The second is the narrative visual aesthetic characteristics of the aesthetic modeling of Miao bird patterns.The creation of Miao bird patterns in modeling is mainly influenced by the aesthetic consciousness of Miao women,who often express subjective imaginative plots in objective images,making Miao bird patterns both aesthetic and narrative.The third is the naive and clumsy visual aesthetic characteristics of Miao bird pattern expression techniques.Miao bird patterns are commonly used in ancient and naive techniques,especially in batik and embroidery.Then,through the above discussion,Chapter 3 continues to explore the visual aesthetic manifestations of Miao bird patterns.In clothing,it is embodied in formal attire and regular clothing;In jewelry,it is specifically manifested in headwear,neckwear,and other silver ornaments.To explore its aesthetic expression in modern cultural and creative product design,with the intention of promoting the expression and development of Miao bird pattern in modern design.Making the development of Miao bird patterns not only stay within the ethnic group,but also can be more popular and generalized.Finally,the fourth chapter summarizes the relationship between Miao bird patterns and modern product design based on the previous work.First,the shortcomings of Miao bird patterns in modern cultural and creative product design;The second is the inspiration of Miao bird pattern on product design;The third is the development trend of Miao bird patterns.I hope that through this article,we can inherit and continue the Miao bird pattern culture,while injecting the soul connotation of traditional ethnic minority patterns into modern product design,making modern products richer in semantics and more aesthetically pleasing in form.
