Study On Calvino’s Ideas Of Literature Machine

The literature machine view is a response to Calvino’s discussion of the fate of literature in the 20 th century,in which he gave a way out for the future of literature.As an important guiding ideology in Calvino’s later literary creation,this view is the deepening and development of Calvino’s understanding of literature.Understanding Calvino’s literature machine view has a positive enlightening significance for us to fully understand his literary concepts and deeply explore the development path of contemporary literature.However,although there have been numerous studies on Calvino in the domestic academic community,there are few studies on his literature machine view,which is a lack for us to observe and understand Calvino’s literary thoughts in general.The proposal of the concept of literature machine is not only the product of Calvino’s proliferation and formation of the era under the rapid development of knowledge and technology in the post-industrial society,but also deeply influenced by many schools of thought in the cultural circle of France in the 1960 s,especially structuralism,semiotics and potential literature.In addition,Calvino’s cognitive attitude to literature also played a certain role in promoting his literature machine concept.He stated that future literary creation should not only focus on what literature should write,but also be aware of how literature should be written.Therefore,by drawing lessons from today’s world culture and paying attention to the relationship between literary form and literature and machinery,Calvino envisioned an electronic computer that could create and produce literature freely,namely,a "literature machine",in an attempt to find a real way out for the development of future literature.Calvino’s literature machine has dual connotations.On the one hand,it is a kind of material existence envisaged by Calvino,which actually refers to an electronic computer that can replace poets and writers and can freely conceive and produce literature;On the other hand,it is Calvino’s metaphor for the writer,the creator of literature.Calvino believes that the uniqueness and authority of the writer’s identity in the post-modern society has been in a state of dissolution for a long time,and its functional value in literary creation can also be replaced by a machine.The writer has become a machine for producing literature.Although Calvino deconstructed the writer and believed that the writer’s literary creation was only a combination process between words,it did not mean that Calvino gave up his thinking and pursuit of the writer.He pointed out that literature can use combination experiments between words to put words with vastly different meanings together,allowing them to obtain an unexpected meaning beyond the objective meaning of the words,in order to explore the author’s deep unconsciousness and certain things of concern to the society he belongs to.This excavation of the deep meaning of literary language not only shows Calvino’s concern for writers,but also establishes a strict logical system for the formation of his view of literature machine,making the creative path of literature machine experience the process from "language combination" to "individual unconscious stimulation",and the role of literature experience the change from "confirmation of the existing order" to "expression of self-consciousness".Of course,the formation of Calvino’s view of literature machine is also inseparable from the active participation of readers.Calvino said that readers’ reading attitude plays a decisive role in the construction of literature machine.As a symbol of Calvino’s ideal literature,literature machine meets all Calvino’s expectations for the ideal state of literary creation.Calvino’s literature machine hopes that literature can achieve the organic unity of literary cognitive function and aesthetic value through the interaction of many basic elements in literary creation,and complete the pursuit of the infinity and uniqueness of literary creation.Calvino put forward the idea of literature machine,and took it as a response to the future of literature.It actually implied Calvino’s optimism and confidence in the future of literature.Some things can only be provided to us by literature in its unique way.The future of literature is endless and has unlimited possibilities.
