A Report On E-C Translation Of The Excerpts From Egg Freezing,Fertility And Reproductive Choice

Existing researches on female egg freezing mainly discuss the impact of egg freezing on individuals,families and the society.Scholars have distinguished“Medical Egg Freezing”(MEF)and “Social Egg Freezing”(SEF).Foreign investigations and studies on Social Egg Freezing provide us with a more rational and objective view of the practice of “freezing eggs” and can also promote domestic research and translation in related field to a certain extent.The author selected the key chapters in the book Egg Freezing,Fertility and Reproductive Choice,Chapter 7: Negotiating Parenthood: Men,Intimate Relationships and Childbearing,and a small part of Chapter 8: Conclusion as the source text for this translation practice.It mainly tells us how women’s fertility intentions and actions are closely related to the fertility intentions of their male partners,and reveals how the decision of Social Egg Freezing and the delay of female fertility are affected by external factors.This is a social science informational text,which contains proper nouns of egg freezing technology and female reproduction,and a lot of complex structures and passive structures and so on.These are relatively difficult for non-native language readers to read and understand,and they are also the key and difficult points that the author spends a lot of time and effort to overcome in the translation process.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory,the cases are analyzed from three levels: vocabulary,long and complex sentence and text.The author uses methods such as literal translation of proper nouns,division of complex structures and conversion of passive structures to ensure the accuracy of the original information,and to make the translation conform to the expression habits of the target language,so that the target language readers will have the same reading experience as the source language readers,thus to achieve the purpose of communicative translation.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,the author analyzes the key and difficult points in the process of English-Chinese translation of informative texts,explores and summarizes the corresponding effective solutions and strategies,in order to provide some references for the translation of such texts,and also provide some reference materials for the research of Social Egg Freezing in China.
