A non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)means that an individual intentionally and repeatedly changes or harms his body tissue without a clear suicidal intention,but the behavior is not fatal.Adolescence is a high incidence of self-injury behaviors.The common self-injury behaviors include cutting arms with sharp tools,beating the wall,biting oneself and so,etc.Adolescent self-injury is not only detrimental to physical and mental health,but also brings serious problems to the society and family.The factors affecting self-injury mainly include individual characteristics and family environment.This study mainly investigated the effects of adolescent emotional factors,namely alexithymia,and childhood experienced psychological abuse and neglect from primary caregivers on adolescent self-injury behavior.Individual emotional factors may be directly acting on vocational students self-injury behavior,while individual psychological abuse and neglect experienced in childhood generally affect the occurrence of self-injury behavior through the mutual influence with individual emotional factors.This study investigated 836 students from a vocational high school in Chongqing to understand the overall situation and the relationship of non-suicidal self-injury and psychological abuse and neglect,and explored the mediating role of alexithymia between non-suicidal self-injury and childhood psychological abuse and neglect.Study 2 was a randomized controlled group experiment.16 subjects were selected as experimental group to receive group psychological counseling once a week for 8 weeks,and 16 subjects as control group to test the effect of group psychological counseling intervention on alexithymia and NSSI behavior.The results of Study 1 and 2 are as follows:(1)Childhood psychological abuse and neglect is significantly associated with non-suicidal self-injury,and alexithymia.(2)Aexithymia partially mediated the relationship between childhood psychological abuse and neglect and non-suicidal self-injury.(3)After the implementation of group counseling,the level of alexithymia and NSSI of the subjects in the experimental group were significantly lower than that of the control group.In conclusion,the study draws the following conclusions:(1)Psychological abuse and neglect in childhood can significantly positively predict non-suicidal NSSI behaviors in vocational students.(2)Allexithymia has a significant positive predictive effect on non-suicidal self-injury behavior in vocational students.(3)Allexithymia plays a partial intermediary role between psychological abuse and neglect and non-suicidal self-injury in vocational students,that is,the psychological abuse and neglect experienced by adolescents in childhood can directly predict non-suicidal self-injury,and can also affect non-suicidal self-injury through the mediation effect of alexithymia;(4)Group counseling for emotion management can reduce the level of alexithymia and reduce non-suicidal self-injury behaviors in vocational students. |
