| Shin Jeong-ha was a well-known poet and poetics critic in the period of Su Zong in Choson Dynasty. His poetics was based on Bai Yue Poetic Circles and took China’s poetics as a reference, forming his own unique poetic theory system.First,Shin’s theory of “Genuine poetry” originated from the poetic thought of Emotion since the late Ming Dynasty, and was reformed by the poetic aesthetic concept of Choson. Then, under the idea of“honest and sincere poetic nature”,Shin’s poetics still showed the appearance of adopting many poetic schools, compromising the Tang and Song Dynasties but leaning towards the Song tune, and at the same time faithfully practicing this poetic style tendency in his own creation.Once more,Shin’s poetic theory of “Our East Vassal State” showed a strong self-confidence in his own poetics, and it is also a high national consciousness. All in all,Shin Jeong-ha’s poetic thought was representative in the late period of Choson Dynasty, and was in agreement with Qing’s poets in the early Qing Dynasty. From this perspective, his poetic theory can be regarded as an answer to the “Dong Guo” of the “Tang and Song Poetry Debate” between the Ming and Qing Dynasties. |
