| With the fast development of metallurgical science and technology in recent years,English texts related to metallurgy have emerged one after another.Meanwhile the translations of them has become progressively prominent. It is helpful to improve the quality of translation and promote translation practice by selecting suitable theories and applying appropriate skills according to the unique language characteristics of EST.Metallurgical text belongs to the scope of scientific and technological text, which has strong professional content, rich sentence structure and standard wording, and is difficult to be translated.Guided by Eugene Albert Nida’s functional equivalence theory, the author translates the contents of the first three sections of Chapter 1 of Agglomeration in metallurgy. It is found that this book has the characteristics of conciseness, objectivity and logicality. The functional equivalence theory can practically ensure the accuracy of information transmission and the standardization of content expression in translation. As to lexical equivalence,it is necessary that we pay attention to the translation of professional terms and word formation;from the perspective of syntactic equivalence,it is significant to deal with passive voice and difficult long sentences;in order to achieve textual equivalence,we need to change the perspective and sequence;at the stylistic level,it is necessary to coordinate on the basis of the first three levels in order to make the translation text according with the norms of scientific and technological style. It is concluded that the translation of metallurgical texts can be more faithful and fluent under the direction of functional equivalence theory during this translation practice. We should roundly consider the features of the text but not subject to the form of the source language text.Translating a idiomatic and accurate text from the four aspects of vocabulary, syntax, text and style,so as to promote metallurgical technology exchanges better. |
