| In the process of conversion and translation between English and Chinese, there are usually differences between the two languages that cannot be ignored.English itself is accustomed to the expression habit of unclear pronoun reference,as well as different from the logical way of expression in Chinese, which may lead to unclear meaning of the target language when translating. If the source text is not properly translated,it will lead to problems such as poor readability of the translated text. Therefore, how to make the translation more fluent and coherent and enable the readers of the target language to understand the meaning of the original accurately become an important issue that translators must solve. This report is based on the Research Methods in Interpreting : A Practical Resource for the English-Chinese translation practice project.Since the book is a guidebook,it involves a lot of specialized vocabulary and very rich and detailed examples. In the process of non-literary translation,it is of vital importance to pay attention to the accuracy of the message conveyed.Based on the study of these characteristics of instrumental texts and the overall understanding of the explicitation strategy, the translator decided to apply this strategy to guide the translation work. The concept of explicitation was first introduced by Vinay and Darbelnet to better convey the information contained in the source text and to enhance readability of the translation. The translator takes Research methods in interpreting : a practical resource from chapter 3 to the first half of chapter 5 as an example, and uses Klaudy’s explicitation strategy as a guide to analyze the situations in which translation needs to be done at the lexical, syntactic, and textual level. In addition, the specific methods of explicitation such as addition, annotation, adding conjunction, reorganization, replacement, etc.are applied respectively, and the analysis is purposefully combined with the examples in the original text.It is found that after the explicitation process,a series of problems such as logical confusion, ambiguous expressions and inaccurate pronouns in the previous translations have been solved on certain levels. The information conveyed in the translations became clearer and more accurate, and the information implied in some expressions was also well reflected.By means of appropriate addition, replacement, etc.,the target language is enriched to a certain extent without being rigidly applied. The translation becomes more flexible and more in line with the reading habits of Chinese readers. In addition, this practice makes a modest contribution to the relatively limited literature on interpretation research methods. The opportunity is taken to introduce interpretation research methods to a wider range of peers and to draw scholars’ attention to and consideration of translation research methods. |
