| With the rapid development of knowledge economy in the 21 st century,the society has put forward higher requirements for education.As an important way to improve teaching efficiency,the idea of instructional design has gradually become one of the hot issues in educational field.Based on the review of backward design in English reading instruction,this study conducts an action research on the application of backward design in English reading instruction in a Changchun senior high school.The action research consists of two rounds,lasting 6 weeks.The author designs and implements four English reading lessons based on the backward design template,and uses classroom observation and reflection logs to answer the following two research questions:(1)How to write and implement the backward design in Senior English reading instruction?(2)What are the effects of the implementation of the backward design on Senior English reading instruction for teachers and students?Through the statistics and analysis of the data,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Writing and implementing backward design in senior English reading instruction includes five steps: analyze NECS,students and text,identify desired results,determine acceptable evidence,plan learning experiences and instruction,have a reflection.(2)The implementation of backward design in senior English reading teaching can promote teachers to achieve Teaching-Learning-Assessment integration and optimize the design and organization of teaching activities.It can also improve students’ engagement in class and promote students’ in-depth understanding of the text.Based on the findings,some specific suggestions are provided for teachers.First,teachers should attach great importance to the analysis of NECS,students and text.Then before designing learning activities,teachers are advised to identify desired teaching results and value the significance of determining acceptable evidence.Finally,teachers are suggested to design effective and engaging learning activities combined with WHERETO elements and the Activities-based Approach to English Learning. |
