As an avenue for human beings to obtain information,reading plays an indispensable role in our language learning and daily life.With the continuous development and reformation of the system of college entrance examination,reading comprehension accounts for a larger and larger proportion.Taking Guizhou Province as an example: After the new system of college entrance examination has been implemented,its proportional score has increased from 2 points to 2.5 points for each multiple choice in reading comprehension.As for the writing,the appearance of continuation writing requires students to read the given material first and then continue to write with logic.All the changes reflect the importance of reading,especially deep reading.Only through deep reading can students’ high-level thinking be developed and match the value orientation of new college entrance examination,which can also be reflected in the new textbooks.Each unit of textbook of senior high school English published by Foreign Language Education and Research Press(2019)contains two reading articles.One is called “understanding ideas”,the other is called “developing ideas”.It is easy to find that the learning and teaching of reading can not be restricted to the shallow aspect like understanding.It is supposed to reach the deeper level to develop students’ thinking quality,which is also the requirement of the Standards of English Curriculum in Regular High School(2020).In the language knowledge part,it reads that students should: critically judge the discourse and its cultural phenomenon;infer information based on the mentioned facts with logic;distinguish and infer the implied opinions.For the sake of matching these requirements,students need to do deep reading and develop their high-level thinking ability.Based on these,the author starts from the question discovered in practical teaching and manages to answer the following research questions through action research under the background of new college entrance examination:(1)What is the impact that English deep reading may have on senior high school students’ reading ability?(2)How can high school English teachers develop students’ ability to perform English deep reading?The author selected students from two classes of Grade 1 in Xifeng No.1 High School as the research objects.Class 3 of Grade 1 acted as the experimental class in which the author performed the teaching of English deep reading while the Class 4 of Grade 1 was set as the non-experimental class in which the author performed the traditional teaching of English reading.A four-and-a-half-month action research was carried out with the research methods of questionnaire,test and interview.By collecting reliable data and analyzing the collected data with the professional data analysis software SPSS 25.0,the author drew the following conclusions:(1)English deep reading has a positive impact on senior high school students’ reading ability.(2)Senior high school English teachers should perform the teaching of English deep reading to develop students’ ability to achieve English deep reading.Compared with traditional teaching of English reading,the teaching of English deep reading can better: arouse students’ interest,develop students’ high-level thinking ability,show the subjectivity of students and help students to review.Eventually,based on the analysis of current teaching situation of teaching of English reading and the research results,the author discovered that while teaching,teachers should: analyze the discourse seriously and know their students adequately and beforehand,set up the proper learning activities that can urge students to perform deep reading and provide students with opportunities to carry out the knowledge transference and innovation.The author hopes the teaching of English deep reading can offer some references to the teaching and learning of English reading and help teachers to perform the teaching of English reading better and deeper so that they can develop the high-quality talents who can match the value orientation of new college entrance examination. |
