A Practice Report On MTPE Of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Rules (Excerpts)

This is a practice report based on the translation process of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange rules.In order to accumulate translation experience,improve translation capability,and gain an accurate understanding of what’s going on the translation market,the author was commissioned by a foreign trade company during an internship in a translation company.In June2021,the author participated in the English-Chinese translation task and cooperated with other translators within one week,completing the financial translation work covering 50,000 words.This report will introduce the translation experience in concrete matters,through the introduction of file processing during the pre-translation preparation stage,the display of CAT tools used in the during-translation and post-translation periods(taking Trados,Heartsome TMX Editor as examples).It shows the integration of computer-assisted translation(CAT),machine translation(MT)and translation management system(TMS)in the process of during-translation and post-translation,forming an Integrated Translation Environment(ITE)for the translator.The author divides the machine translation errors found in the summary into seven aspects,including the wrong translation of terminology,form word and other error types,and concludes the statistical data analysis of error types.If the Skopos Theory is anything to go by,taking the the principle of skopos,loyalty and coherence as the framework,the author integrates the error models into three aspects,and obtains three types of related translation strategies under the three principles.The author also combines the practical post-editing operations learned during the internship with the accumulated theories to explore the overall process of post-editing.The author hopes to register the proven track record of translation experience from this practical assignment,see the fundamental role of post-editing capabilities for translators and make plans for boosting post-editing capabilities.
