Post-editing In The Translation Of World English:A Study Of Its Development (Excerpts)

Since machine translation was proposed,it has made great progress.With the deepening of internationalization and the increasingly frequent global trade,the demand in translation market is also expanding.Therefore the role of machine translation cannot be ignored.However,due to the limitations of machine translation itself,it is impossible for translators to completely rely on it.And it is necessary to modify and improve the results of machine translation with the help of manual translation editing to ensure the quality of the text.By comparing the output of machine translation with the text edited after post-editing,this report analyzes the advantages of machine translation and its common errors,and summarizes the corresponding suggestions of post-editing,so as to improve the efficiency and quality of translation text.This is a translation practice report written on the basis of World English: A Study of its Development.The translator selects the fifth and sixth chapter of this book as the translation text,and hopes to analyze the translation errors of machine translation and in order to find out the key points that the translator need to pay more attention to in the process of post-editing.These two chapters mainly introduce the spread process and establishment process of English.It is helpful to learners and researchers who are majoring in English studies.And there is no published Chinese version of this book.In this translation practice,the translator chooses Google translate as the tools of machine translation,and then conducts post-editing based on the output of machine translation.By comparing the results of machine translation and post-editing,the translator summarizes some advantages and common errors of machine translation.And combining the analysis of the common error types in machine translation summarized by other scholars before,the translator finds that the output of machine translation should be dealt with from the perspective of lexical,syntax and discourse respectively.And based on these analyses,the translator proposes some strategies that can be used in post-editing.The translator hopes that this translation practice can provide some references for other translators to improve the efficiency in the process of post-editing.
