| Physical activity has both physical and mental benefits.Physical activity can not only reduce the risk of chronic diseases, but also help improve mental health. It is an important way to reduce negative emotions, improve self-esteem,subjective well-being and promote the development of cognitive function. However, the physical activity of contemporary college students is seriously insufficient. The natural factor of season is often ignored in the study of its impact on physical activity, and some extreme weather in different seasons is often regarded as an obstacle to physical activity.Exercise behavioral intention refers to the degree to which individuals expect to actively participate in physical exercise in their subjective consciousness.Behavioral intention affects the occurrence of physical activity behavior.Mental toughness is a collection of values, attitudes, behaviors and emotions.Mental toughness is often regarded as an important psychological resource to combat stress and adversity.People with high mental toughness have a more positive attitude and self-confidence in the face of setbacks, and mental toughness may guide the formation of behavioral intention. This study takes college students as the research object to explore the physical activities of college students in different seasons, and the mediating role of behavior intention between season and physical activity behavior, and the regulating role of mental toughness between season and behavior intention.Conduct subjective and objective research on the seasonal differences in physical activity among college students.Study 1:Through a questionnaire survey,1055 college students nationwide were selected in four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter to use the International Physical Activity Questionnaire to measure their self-reported physical activity level. To further objectively verify the seasonal differences in physical activity among college students, study 2 used the Actigraph GT3X+accelerometer was used to measure the PA of 39 college students in spring and autumn.Simultaneously use the Planned Behavior Theory Questionnaire and the Mental Toughness Questionnaire at the same time to measure the level of the two psychological variables of behavioral intention and mental toughness. The study used Kruskal Wallis rank sum test, paired sample t test, and regression analysis to analyze seasonal differences in PA behavior and the impact of seasons on PA,and uses the process plug-in in SPSS25 to analyze and test the mediation effect of behavioral intention and the regulatory effect of mental toughness. The results of the study are as follows:(1)There are gender differences in college students’ moderate to vigorous physical activity(MVPA),total physical activity(TPA),attitude, behavior control, behavior intention, and mental toughness of physical activity.Men are significantly higher than women; There was no significant gender difference in light physical activity(LPA);(2)Behavior intention has a significant positive correlation with physical activity, and a significant positive correlation with mental toughness.Behavior intention can significantly predict the amount of physical activity.(3)The questionnaire survey found that the LPA of college students is significantly lower in winter than in spring, summer, and autumn, while there is no significant difference between spring, summer, and autumn.MVPA was significantly higher in spring than in summer and winter, and significantly higher in autumn than in winter. There was no significant difference in MVPA between spring and autumn, summer and autumn, and summer and winter. The TPA in spring is significantly higher than that in summer and winter, while in winter it is significantly lower than the other three seasons. There is no significant difference in TPA between spring and autumn, summer and autumn.Seasons have significant effects on college students’ LPA,MVPA and TPA.The accelerometer measurement shows that there was no significant difference in the physical activity of college students at all levels in spring and autumn, which was consistent with the results of the questionnaire survey.(4)Behavior intention plays a mediating role between seasons and physical activities, and the relative mesomeric effect of different seasons is significant.Mental toughness has a positive moderating effect between season and behavior intention, and the moderating effect of psychological resilience is more significant in winter. Conclusion:Season will affect college students’ physical activity level, behavioral intention plays a mediating role between season and physical activity.Mental toughness can regulate the first half of the mediating model, and the mediating model with regulation is established. |
