| Background and Objectives:China has rapidly entered an aging society.Lifestyle is related to the active aging of only children’s elderly parents, and it can also affect the physical and mental health of only children’s elderly parents. If an unhealthy lifestyle is adopted,it will bring significant pressure to families and society.Conducting a survey on the health-promoting lifestyle of only children’s elderly parents can help understand their current situation and analyze influencing factors, providing theoretical basis for maintaining and improving their health-promoting lifestyle in the future. The purpose of this study is to understand the current status of the health-promoting lifestyle of only children’s elderly parents from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives, and to analyze influencing factors.Materials and Methods:This study consists of two parts, quantitative research and qualitative research.Quantitative research: A total of 573 elderly participants were recruited through online and offline methods. They completed the General Information Questionnaire,Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile-Chinese Elderly(HELP-CE),Social Support Appraisals Scale(SS-A),Geriatric Depression Scale-15(GDS-15),and Comprehensive Frailty Assessment Instrument(CFAI).The data were analyzed using SPSS22.0,including descriptive statistics, variance analysis, correlation analysis, and linear regression.Qualitative research: In order to explore the influencing factors in depth, the researcher selected some interviewees from the elderly parents of only-child who participated in the preliminary questionnaire survey, and also selected some interviewees from other communities.Semi-structured interviews were conducted using a self-developed interview outline, and the data were recorded using audio and pen and paper.Nvivo20 software was used for node sorting,three-level coding, and analysis, based on grounded theory principles.Results:1.The score of health-promoting lifestyle of elderly parents with one child was 119.56 ± 16.94.There were significant differences(P<0.05)between the health-promoting lifestyle scores of elderly parents with one child and those without one child in the total score, interpersonal support, health responsibility, and vitality, but no significant differences(P>0.05)were found in stress management,self-actualization,and nutritional behavior.2.Gender,age,education level, marital status, work status, and monthly income source did not significantly affect(P>0.05)the health-promoting lifestyle score of elderly parents with one child.3.The multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that social support, depression, and frailty can significantly predict(P<0.05)the health-promoting lifestyle score of elderly parents with one child.4.The qualitative research showed that factors affecting the health-promoting lifestyle of elderly parents with one child include physiological factors, psychological factors, social support, and subjective perception.Conclusions:1.Elderly parents who are only children have a relatively good health-promoting lifestyle and are generally satisfied with it.2.There are significant differences(P<0.05)between elderly parents who are only children and those who are not only children in terms of total score of health-promoting lifestyle, interpersonal support, health responsibility, and vitality.3.The type of residence, type of elderly care, monthly income, and economic status significantly affect the health-promoting lifestyle score of elderly parents who are only children(P<0.05).4.Among the social support received by elderly parents who are only children, family support is the main source and other support is the least.Social support is a protective factor for the health-promoting lifestyle score of elderly parents who are only children.5.Depression and frailty can significantly predict(P<0.05)the health-promoting lifestyle score of elderly parents who are only children. They are both risk factors for the health-promoting lifestyle score of elderly only-child parents.6.The influencing factors of the health-promoting lifestyle of elderly parents who are only children include physiological factors, psychological factors, social support, and subjective perception. |
