A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Under The Guidance Of The Effort Model

In recent years,the impact of climate change on the financial system has become the focus of the financial regulatory authorities of major countries in the world,including the Bank for International Settlements,and climate change and the risk of natural disasters brought about by it are important factors affecting economic development and financial stability.The Bank for International Settlements(BIS)was established in 1930 and is the oldest international financial organization in the world.The corpus for this practice report comes from a meeting of the Bank for International Settlements in June 2022.The conference was attended by participants from major international financial organizations.The conference aimed to analyze the types of climate change risks and how they affect the financial system,explore policy approaches to address climate-related financial risks and sort out the relevant policy response tools.The report takes Gile’s effort model as the theoretical guidance and the author’s interpretation practice as the corpus material and draws some experiences and insights from the interpreting practice through induction,reflection,and experience summary.Gile points out that there are three main components in cognitive efforts allocation: listening comprehension,short-term memory,and language production,and that too many attention resources taken up by any one of these tasks will lead to less attention allocated to one or more other tasks,which is likely to affect the quality of interpretation.The report also suggests some ways for interpreters to strengthen their listening and discernment skills and improve the quality of short-term memory and target language output in their daily practice,such as sight interpretation and shadowing,to continuously improve their professional skills.This report also applies the strategies of omission,amplification,paraphrasing and segmentation to reflect on improving the quality of interpretation.Through the practice of interpreting in this conference,we reflect on improving our shortcomings and minimizing unnecessary effort consumption,intending to reduce mistranslation and omission,to complete the interpretation tasks smoothly and successfully.
