A major figure in contemporary Western art,British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor rose to fame in the early 1980 s for his investigations into the concepts of scale, volume, color and materiality, and redefined contemporary sculpture.Kapoor’s art is rich in the language of space, and he is best known for his exploration of the concept of emptiness.his sculptures, installations, and public art test the phenomenology of space and feature strong tactile or reflective materials, including colored paint, wax, fiberglass, stone, polished stainless steel, and PVC.Kapoor’s unique artistic language expresses his own thoughts on space, matter, immateriality, the body, and social cultural reflections. With his delicate and pure works,he makes the viewer feel the imaginary space in the real world, and contemplates the contrast between the real world and the unreal in an open form.Constantly breaking the forms of sculpture, installation and painting,he transcends the mere material materials and sublimates them into a field of spiritual interplay.Kapoor,as a leader in the field of contemporary art,is writing a new history for Western contemporary art with continuous experimentation and innovation, bringing new inspiration to the present-day art creators.Nowadays,in the humanities, the meaning of space has long since taken a turn.Space has transformed from a timeless, invisible and shapeless container in early philosophy to a complex place that is constantly given new meanings. This paper takes space as the entry point to explore the multiple transformations of space in Anish Kapoor’s artworks, and uses Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of the body, the phenomenal field, and Homi Bhabha’s "Third Space" as philosophical arguments,in turn,to look at the formation of the concept of space in Anish Kapoor’s art,the spatial forms in art,the language of space, and the implications for the author and the artist. The study and discussion will focus on the chapters of "void space" and "original space" in Kapoor’s art, expanding and deepening the understanding of space and the study of space in plastic art.It provides the public with a way of thinking about "space" in the art of Anish Kapoor.
