In the background of "double reduction",homework design has become a hot topic of concern for grassroots teaching.The main purpose of "reducing" is to reduce the excessive burden of students’ schoolwork,and designing effective homework is the anchor point of effectively reducing students’ schoolwork.How to design effective homework with high quality,so that it can become a help to stimulate students’ interest in learning and promote their progress and development,is an important topic worth discussing seriously.At the same time,with the rapid development of smart teaching,AES systems are becoming more and more powerful in assisting teaching and learning,and their use in homework and in the process of writing assignment and feedback has great potential.Guided by constructivist theory and combined with research results related to homework,this study explores in what ways writing assignments designed based on AES systems facilitate students’ learning and teachers’ teaching,hoping to help teachers better design and apply writing assignments.This study was conducted as a four-month action research study with 65 students in a Grade nine class in a middle school in Chongqing,aiming to explore the following three questions:(1)How to design senior high school English writing homework based on Automated Essay Scoring systems?(2)In what aspects does English writing homework design and application based on AES systems improve students’ learning?(3)In what aspects does English writing homework design and application based on AES systems improve teachers’ teaching?After the three rounds of action research,through data analysis of interviews,questionnaires,and tests,it is found that:(1)Teachers should make writing assignments a part of their teaching.When designing assignments,ensure that the purpose of the assignment is clear,matched with students,and linked to the classroom,use the AES system to add interest to the assignment;before writing,use the AES system to provide scaffolding,clearly communicate the requirements to students,and teach the required skills;after writing,provide feedback through the AES system and allow students to evaluate each other.(2)English writing homework design and application based on AES systems can help students to improve their writing ability,promote active construction,and support cooperative learning.(3)English writing homework design and application based on AES systems can help teachers to improve teaching efficiency,support students’ active construction,and increase interaction and guidance.
