National Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 version with2020 revision)clarifies that senior high school English course aims to develop English subject core competencies of students,and advocates the unit integrity instruction based on the activity-based approach to promote the implementation of the English subject core competencies.The problem of “ more emphasis on input and less on output ” in teaching has been improved to some extent,and students have more opportunities to participate in and experience learning.However,there are still problems of patterning,superficialization,and labeling in teaching.Teachers have ignored the internal connection between core competencies and English teaching,making it difficult to realize the unique educational value of English.This research attempts to propose the correlation between the production-oriented approach and the concept of new high school English curriculum standard,and explore unit integrity instructional design based on the production-oriented approach in senior high school English teaching,so as to achieve the educational goal of English subject.The subjects of this study were 10 English teachers and 80 students from two classes in the Grade One of senior high school in Hefei.Both classes were taught by the researcher himself,one of which was an experimental class implementing unit integrity instruction based on the production-oriented approach and the other was a control class implementing a traditional instruction model,with no significant differences in the learning levels of the students in the two classes.Through questionnaires,interviews and tests,this paper proposes to explore the current situation of unit integrity teaching in senior high school and the impact of unit integrity teaching on instruction effectiveness.The following questions will be discussed in this study.(1)What is the current situation of the implementation of unit integrity instructional design?(2)How to design the model of unit integrity instructional design based on production-oriented approach?(3)What is the effect of unit integrity instruction based on production-oriented approach?Taking English Selective Compulsory Course One as an example,a instructional design case for unit integrity instructional design based on production-oriented approach is provided in this research.Prior to implementation,the author distributes English teachers questionnaires to figure out teachers’ comprehension of unit integrity instructional design and the status quo of its implementation.Then,the placement test papers for two classes are analyzed to make sure whether the class meets the needs of the implementation.In the teaching implementation,control class(CC)adopts the conventional teaching model while unit integrity teaching is adopted in experimental class(EC).After one semester of teaching implementation,through the analysis of students’ scores and students’ interviews,it was found that unit integrity teaching can improve teaching effectiveness and promote the cultivation of students’ core competencies.From the analysis of the teachers’ questionnaires,it can be found that high school English teachers have a certain degree of comprehension of unit integrity instruction.Through the analysis of teacher questionnaires,it is found that senior high school English teachers have a certain understanding of unit integrity teaching and schools have generally implemented unit integrity teaching,but there are still quite a few teachers who copy the model.Through the analysis of students’ pre and post test scores and interviews with teachers and students,it is found that the unit integrity instruction based on POA can indeed improve teaching effectiveness compared to conventional teaching.This study is a positive attempt to promote the implementation of the new curriculum standards in senior high school English teaching.It is hoped that it can provide reference for senior high school English teaching under the guidance of the new curriculum standards,so as to better promote the achievement of students’ core competencies and achieve the goal of English education.
