The source material of this report is excerpted from the book Encounter and Positions in Architecture in Japan written by Susanne Kohte,Hubertus Adam,Daniel Hubert and other writers. The translation of the book is intended to provide information on Japanese architecture from the perspective of European architects for the domestic architectural industry. The practice report reviews the whole process of practice, analyzes difficulties in the translation through case studies, provides solutions and summarizes translation skills and practical experience in order to provide some reference for the translation of similar types of English texts.Skopos Theory is firstly chosen as the guiding principle of translation according to the characteristics of scientific and technological texts. Then, the author attempts to explore the difficulties and provide solutions in the course of translation from the perspectives of vocabulary and long sentences. For the vocabulary, technical terms, polysemous words and verbal nominalizations are chosen for the analysis.Different translation skills, such as literal translation, free translation, conversion and extension are used.As for the translation of long sentences, the skills of sentences splitting and reorganization of sentence order are employed.
