| For a long time,English teaching in high school has always regarded reading as a top priority. With the reform and development of the new curriculum standard, the teaching of reading not only focuses on students’ ability to construct text meaning independently, but also advocates for cooperative learning among students and gives attention to the students’ subjectivity in learning.Nevertheless, the current majority of English reading teaching still relies on “teachers lecturing and students listening”.Students’ “learning” depends on teachers’ “teaching”,and their “reading” is mostly fragmented and superficial.Over time, students’ individual understanding of reading materials will not only be affected, but their motivation to learn English reading will also gradually decrease. How to better carry out reading teaching and improve the current reading situation has become the focus of researchers’ attention. The “reading circle” model,as an emerging teaching model, can precisely compensate for the inadequacies of traditional reading teaching. It is a way of reading that students share and discuss based on reading roles on the basis of autonomous and cooperative learning.Based on this, this study applied the “reading circle” model in the internship class of the researcher in the first grade of G High School in X City, based on cooperative learning theory and constructivist learning theory, focusing on exploring three issues:(1)What is the impact of the application of the “reading circle” model on students’ English reading interest, attitude, and cooperative learning ability?(2)What is the impact of the application of the “reading circle” model on students’ English reading comprehension ability?(3)How can English teachers use the “reading circle”model in high school English reading teaching? Before and after the application of the “reading circle”model, this study comprehensively used research tools such as questionnaires, tests, classroom observation tables, and interview outlines to explore its effects. The study shows that:(1)The application of the “reading circle” model helps to motivate students’ interest in reading English, strengthen their sense of cooperation and develop their cooperative learning skills.By participating in various levels and forms of reading activities, students’ attitudes towards English reading are improved.(2)Students’ comprehension of texts from multiple perspectives in the “reading circle” mode has a certain degree of contribution to the improvement of their ability to read and comprehend, mainly through the improvement of their ability to understand details, speculate on the meaning of words, and generalize the general idea.(3)When implementing the “reading circle” model with in-class text materials in high school reading, teachers need to adapt it to local contexts, such as pre-implementation understanding and role training,in-implementation text guidance and assistance, and post-implementation multiple assessments and reflections. |
