| The purpose of this paper is to investigate the motivation,behavior and attitude of foreign students in extracurricular Chinese reading in universities of Sichuan,summarize the shortcomings of international students in extracurricular Chinese reading,and put forward corresponding improvement suggestions.The first chapter expounds the research object and research significance,makes a summary of related research,and introduces the research methods of the paper: literature research method,questionnaire survey method,interview method and statistical analysis method.The second chapter introduces the relevant concepts and theories that play a supporting role in this paper,including: reading types,graded reading and reading attitudes;reading motivation theory,input hypothesis and narrow reading theory.The third chapter firstly introduces the basic situation of the questionnaire survey and interview;secondly,using Spss and Excel software for data analysis,and using the interview record sheet to display the survey results of the interview part;thirdly,using the extracurricular reading exercises of international students as the survey material,and comparing the answers to the exercises longitudinally,it is concluded that insisting on reading Chinese outside the classroom is of great benefit to optimizing the reading effect,improving the reading ability and Chinese proficiency.Finally,it summarizes the shortcomings of extracurricular Chinese reading for international students in Sichuan universities:(1)In terms of motivation: insufficient internal motivation,low interest in Chinese reading;(2)In terms of behavior: insufficient reading time,low reading frequency,low input,and improper use of strategies,insufficient utilization of Chinese reading resources,etc.;(3)Attitude: foreign students with low Chinese proficiency have a weaker awareness of independent reading,and have a more negative attitude towards Chinese extracurricular reading.In addition,this paper analyzes the reasons for the insufficiency of Chinese extracurricular reading for international students:(1)the limitation of foreign students’ Chinese proficiency;(2)the insufficiency of Chinese teachers;(3)the Chinese grading system has not been formed,and there is no abundant Chinese extracurricular reading resources.In the fourth chapter,aiming at the deficiencies reflected in the questionnaires and personal interviews in the previous chapter,it appropriately combines reading motivation theory,input hypothesis and narrow reading theory to put forward relevant suggestions for improvement from the aspects of foreign students,Chinese teachers,schools and extracurricular reading materials.The innovation of the paper:(1)Research object.This paper conducts an investigation and research on the Chinese extracurricular reading of international students in universities of Sichuan,and compares and analyzes the differences in Chinese extracurricular reading among international students at the primary,intermediate and advanced stages.(2)Research perspective.In the current research,the narrow reading theory is mainly used in the English learning of domestic primary and secondary school students,which provides great research value for English teachers.The paper proposes to apply the narrow reading theory to the teaching of reading Chinese as a foreign language,and advocates that international students should focus their reading vision on a certain writer,a certain theme,a certain style,and multiple works of a certain theme,and put forward relevant reading teaching suggestions accordingly. |
