| In recent years, more and more Chinese students choose to study abroad. However, since the outbreak of COVID-19,studying abroad has been conducted online because of the impact of pandemic. And it also increased the demand for online interpreters. In March 2022,the author interned as an online interpreter at French ICD Business School. The internship lasts three months, and its main task is to interpret the online MBA(master of business administration)courses. In this program, the targeted clients of the interpreter are French professors and Chinese students. Its main task for the interpreter is to interpret English courses into Chinese to help Chinese students to learn.According to Daniel Gile’s Effort Model,a qualified interpreter should reasonably allocate his/her efforts in seven aspects, namely,Listening and analysis,Note-taking,Short-term memory,Coordination,Remembering,Note-reading and Production.Through interpreting practices, the author finds that misinterpreting and involuntary omission happen because of unreasonable allocation of efforts in some interpreting phases. Therefore, based on Daniel Gile’s Effort Model and the author’s own experiences, this report mainly focuses on interpreting problems in Listening and Analysis,Note-taking,Short-term Memory and Production, such as involuntary omission and misinterpreting, thus finding solutions.Through the analysis of specific cases, the author finds that interpreters need to improve their available processing capacity by shadowing training, figure interpreting, logical note-taking and other related training in daily practices so as to provide satisfactory interpreting services. At the same time, while interpreting, interpreters can take ways such as grasping keywords, omitting redundant information and de-verbalization to reduce efforts required in interpreting and reasonably allocate efforts. |
