Against the background of COVID-19 worldwide,it is extremely difficult to achieve economic growth.Meanwhile, global financial governance is also confronted with severe challenges. Many researchers publish articles regarding economic commentaries and financial analyses for international exchanges on key issues in this field. Therefore, the translation of commentary texts on finance amid economic globalization is of paramount significance for establishing the international financial system, promoting the stable and healthy development of the global financial system and stimulating international financial activities. The subject under discussion of this report is the C-E translation of the article“Challenges of Sovereign Bond Bubble,Dollar Dependence and Digital Finance on Global Financial Governance”,published in International Economic Review. It was co-written in 2020 by Wang Da,deputy director of Institute of American Studies of Jilin University, and Gordon Bodnar, director of Department of Economics and Finance of School of Advanced International Studies(SAIS)of Johns Hopkins University. The source text is an academic paper in economics, mainly discussing the major risks and challenges facing the current global financial system from three dimensions of market, system and technology, and exploring their root causes, impacts and feasible coping strategies. Some shared characteristics of economics-related texts regarding the thematic content, organization of the content and language expressions are manifested in this article as well, including the abundance in technical terms, the use of a considerable number of long and complicated sentences, etc. These characteristics are a demonstration of professionalism, preciseness and complexity of the economics discourse. The article therefore boasts great value for the translation study of economics materials. This report, under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory proposed by the Belgian linguist Jef Verschueren, analyzes the plausibility of choosing translation methods such as amplification, substitution, inversion, combination and word class shift, among others,in the translation of the article in question,to deal with specific sentences and texts in the article at three levels: lexical, syntactical and textual. We aim to provide some reference on how to accurately and appropriately translate finance-related or economics-related texts in order to achieve better translation effects.
