| Lin Yutang,who "treads on Chinese and Western cultures and comments on cosmic articles wholeheartedly",has been wandering between Chinese and Western cultures.He jumped out of the limitation of a single cultural perspective,understood Chinese and Western cultures as a "marginal person",and found the similarities and complementarities between the two on this basis.The novel Moment in Peking embodies Lin Yutang’s view of Chinese and Western culture.In this work,Lin Yutang does not simply list the Chinese and Western cultures,but integrates the different Chinese and Western cultures,creating an ideal world of harmonious integration of Chinese and Western cultures for readers.Lin Yuntang’s contribution to the integration of Chinese and Western cultures is analyzed in terms of Lin Yuntang’s view of language.In the structure of the paper,in addition to the introduction and conclusion,this paper is divided into three parts.The first part mainly introduces the appearance of Chinese traditional culture in Moment in Peking,and discusses Lin Yutang’s view of Chinese traditional culture from the perspective of the Confucian culture of self denial and the Lao Zhuang philosophy of inaction.The creation purpose of Moment in Peking is to show Westerners a real Chinese society.Taking Lao Zhuang’s philosophy as the main body and Confucian culture as the supplement,it constitutes the main part of Chinese culture in Moment in Peking.As a Chinese,Lin Yutang shows the real China to the West in a literary way,and conveys the "near affection" and "golden mean" sides of Chinese traditional culture to Western readers.The second part mainly introduces the appearance of western culture in Moment in Peking,and discusses Lin Yutang’s view of western culture from the perspectives of humanism and feminism.Although Moment in Peking aims to introduce Chinese culture,Lin Yutang is in the context of western culture,and there are also a large number of traces of western culture in his works.The tradition of western humanism has always influenced Lin Yutang,making him stand on people rather than things,peace rather than contradictions and conflicts,and sensibility rather than logical rationality.The characters in Moment in Peking will face up to their spiritual and physical needs and actively enjoy the happiness of this world.For women,Lin Yutang affirmed the differences between men and women,and on this basis,excavated women’s own charm,so as to affirm women’s autonomy and independence.The independent and free view of women he praised in Moment in Peking also has strong modern significance.The third part mainly analyzes Lin Yutang’s attempts in the integration of Chinese and Western cultures,from the perspectives of "humor" and "new Taoism" embodied in Moment in Peking."Humor" was introduced into China by Lin Yutang,which integrates the humorous tradition shared by Chinese and Western cultures and gives new significance.Compassion for nature and people and close feelings constitute the main content of Lin Yutang’s humorous philosophy.As a representative of the "new Taoism",Lin Yutang made a new interpretation and development of the traditional Taoist culture,and tried to explore the political,life and scientific ways to effectively deal with the conflict and integration of Chinese and Western civilizations in the 20 th century.On this basis,this paper discusses Lin Yutang’s contribution to the integration of Chinese and Western cultures from the two aspects of literary history and literary exchange history.It not only shows the world readers an objective and real Chinese society in the form of literature,but also promotes the inclusiveness and development of Chinese culture in the context of cultural globalization,which is conducive to enhancing Chinese people’s cultural self-confidence.Facing the complex relationship between Chinese and Western cultures,Lin Yutang did not make a choice from the perspective of "either or",but judged Chinese and Western cultures from the perspective of world integration,emphasizing the harmony in the contradiction between the two and the unity in the opposition.The idea of multi-cultural integration advocated in Moment in Peking has also been vividly displayed through Yao Mulan,Yao Si’an and other protagonists.Moment in Peking is a successful literary attempt made by Lin Yutang from the perspective of cultural blending in the multi-cultural conflict. |
